A classic dream dream machine enhanced for the studio.

The Fender Princeton Reverb Amp of the 1960s, though small, light and moderately powerful, produced giant tube tone. In the '70s and beyond, it earned a rep as the quintessential studio recording amp, and original Princeton Reverb amps are highly sought after in today's vintage market as collectibles and as a wise choice for creating great tube tone in a small space.

Fender's new Princeton Recording Amp offers all of the great tone and dynamics of the original, plus several modern studio-friendly features. Its all-tube preamp, power amp and reverb circuitry is based on the classic '65 Princeton Reverb, and, with 20 watts and a 10" Jensen speaker, it provides spanking vintage tone and enough output for small gigs and rehearsals. The trans-impedance power attenuator lets you crank up the amp for full output tube overdrive and set the speaker volume as low as you want (even silent for headphone use)!

Other features include two classic onboard "stomp box" effects (overdrive and compression), genuine tube-driven Fender spring reverb by Accutronics, headphone output, speaker emulated line output with level control and ground lift, speaker output jack (internal speaker may be disconnected for use with other 8-ohm enclosures), professional FX loop, and four-button footswitch.

Fender Princeton Recording Amp Features:

  • 20W into 8 ohms
  • 10" Jensen speaker with ceramic magnet
  • Power attenuator
  • 3-knob overdrive
  • 2-knob compressor
  • Tube-driven Accutronics reverb
  • Speaker emulated headphone out
  • Speaker emulated XLR line out with level and ground lift
  • Speaker out
  • Professional FX loop
  • 4-button footswitch included

Tube Overdrive

After trying a number of amps over the years, this is my favorite. The critical feature is the "Trans-Impedance Power Attenuator" knob which allows you to crank the master volume to achieve a nice tube overdrive tone but lower the speaker volume so you don't blow away your neighbors ! The clean sound is of course the classic pristine Fender. For those that value it, there are compressor and distortion units built in. With the tube overdrive I haven't found either of these necessary. If you want tube overdrive and don't have the luxury of playing at stage volume, this amp will deliver. Enjoy.

Best Clean Out There

Since its introduction, the Princeton has been the most sought-after amp for Hawaiian steel players. When I plugged in my Fender doubleneck lap steel into this at the store, it sounds just like those old recordings, only better--its the REAL sound, not a lo-fi a recording of it! I love my Blues Junior, but I will be getting one of these as soon as I can save up the money

NOT a Recording Class Amp

I wanted it to be a great foot pedal for Live and Studio and practice amp for home. I found the Tone lacking. There's hardly any bass or midrange at all. It's very crisp! The audience holds their ears! It needs Mid and Presence Tone Controls AND the Compressor squeeles when you mute your strings. Not to mention that my speaker blew after only 2 months of use! It's got a lot of hum, too! I think I shoulda got the Deluxe Reverb and miked it! I would be happy to suggest to Fender some improvements.

Got my Eye on One!

This baby looks Perfect for the Studio and Small Gigs! I bet it'll keep up with the 40 Watt gear with the bridle on and quiet right down to the Near Field World! But, they need to put a pair of tilt legs on it too! Don't you think? :-)
