• Skeptical on dBA numbers provided by reviewer

  I realize that decibel ratings are affected by many factors, such as distance, air density, barometric pressure, et,; however, the reviewer that claims only 62 dBA sound production form the Pro 500 seems mistaken. Although these ratings vary somewhat, 70 dBA is generally the measrures sound levels for a vacuum cleaner or a hair dryer and 60 dBA a normal conversation. To think that a 500 watt PA system max's somewhere between these two ratings is dubious at best.

  I have never been a fan of Fender products being a keyboardist. Their gear mostly centered around guitarist. My first encounter with the Passport was when a friend DJ a party wth the 250 the sound was remarkable. He played a practice CD I had and I was sold. I checked with our local vender and they told me about the 250 being replaced by the 300 Pro Series. I purchased the 300 unboxed it and took it to a rehearsal, the sound was great I ran a portable Hammond B3 through it and the sound was crystal clear with great bottom. I filled a room of aprox. 250 people at about two thirds in volume.I loved the sound but felt a few more bucks a lot more power I exchanged the 300 for the 500 Pro Series. I read all the mixed reviews and was skeptical in purchasing the 500. i am not disappointed. This thing replaces my old rig with a power amp and two 15's. Power and clean. Dont be fooled by the bad reviews the Passport isa keyboardist dream. The Passport plays mid-size venues and with the assistant of a bass sub large venues doing light Jazz. Seeing is believing,

• Great item for the money - Portablility is perfect

  So I read the reviews on this item and was a little torn... It would seem like a two star review emphasizing the lack of sound coming from this unit would be a real red flag. I went down and checked out the 300 (all they had in stock). It was every bit as loud as the similar speaker setups at GC. Since I am using this unit for not only smaller gigs but for speaking engagements as well the portability on this thing kept standing out to me. I went ahead and bought the 500. Once I got this set up in a building which can hold 500 people, I tested it out verses the current sound equipment in the building. I was getting 89db at about 70% of volume and filling the whole building with no problem. I could have tweaked a few things to gain more, but this seemed to be the clearest. The jump after that seemed to be pretty substantial pulling 96db at around 80% - 95% of volume. Here is the catch ? if you really want this thing to sound great you need to buy a powered sub. This will change everything including the Hz the system currently runs through the mains (by 140 Hz ? I believe). With the sub addition you will have the clearer sound with the gut punch that is currently lacking.
