  • Great Bass for Smaller Hands

    As reviewed by R J on 7/30/2011

The Mustang is what you're looking for if you have smaller hands and have trouble with the longer necks of other basses. I owned one of these basses about 30 years ago, and I regret all the time that I sold it. The only problem I ever had with it was a buzzing from a copper plate in the cavity under the pickup, which was very easy to fix. I replaced the factory pickup with a DiMarzio P-Bass pickup to give it more punch, so if you're less than pleased with the "out-of-the-box" tone, that's always an option. Great classic Fender styling.

This bass is awesome. The only qualm I have about it is that the low E string has weak sustain since it's a small scale bass. So drop D tuning doesn't work too well on it (not that I use drop D on bass much anyway). Maybe I just need a bigger amp. But other than that I love it. I see some people complaining about the neck dive but as long as you're wearing a decent strap that won't be a problem.

I have had my mustang for 3 years now and i have not regreted a minute of owning it. The short neck is great for me because i have smaller hands. It has a wide range of tone and is extremenly reliable, I have played shows im smaller bars and big venues and it works for everything. I would recomend this bass to anyone, go play one and you will prolly have the same reaction
