  • Follow up To My previous Review

As reviewed by RICH FONDO on 3/16/2012

I've had this guitar for three days now and have played in for several hours each day. If this is the level of quality that I can expect from a MIC Fender at this price point, I am buying the whole Modern Player line. The more I play this guitar the happierI am with my purchase. I have owned an American Standard Strat and Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty and this guitar holds it's own. The humbucker actually sounds better to me now than at first. I have a Gibson Dirty Fingers in my Epi LP Silverburst and it isn't all that but it certainly does have more punch than in my initial review. Partially because the PUP was a little too far from the strings. A little adjustment provided a noticable improvement. Still going to install a Pearly Gates, though. This guitar is stunning to the eye. Aside from the subpar pickguard, the fit and finish is FLAWLESS. Thanks Fender

  • Guitar of my Dreams

As reviewed by EDWARD LANZILOTTA on 9/14/2012

I have owned this guitar for 3 months now. I can't say enough about how amazing this guitar is. Let me start off by saying, I am a semi-professional musician who gigs on a regular basis. This guitar has met all my needs and then some. The versatility of this guitar is amazing. I love having the roaring humbucker in the bridge, but I also love being able to go to that incredible twang normal Strat bridge pickups are known for. The pups themselves are vintage voiced, however they can get really dirty when I need them to. The neck is a dream to play, with incredible action right out of the box. The fit and finish is superb. I bought the silverburst one and it really shines in the light. The quality is incredible. I have had absolutely no problems with this guitar. Plus I got this thing with the 4th of July sale and the Fender rebate. This thing is easily better than the Mexican and even some American guitars. I can't stress enough how much I love this thing. I don't know what I would do without it.

  • Excellent, so far!

As reviewed by Mojo Risin on 8/29/2013

I?ve only had this guitar for about a day now, so I won?t address any long-term reliability or anything like that. That said, my first impression is that this is solid and well-built so I?m not anticipating any on-going issues. I did a decent amount of research on these MIC strats, so I know what others have said. Most reviews out there have been pretty positive, with a couple of common complaints, which I?ll get to in a bit. But I will say that I haven?t noticed anything out of the ordinary so far, so there won?t be any big revelations here. Ordered this online, which I was a bit apprehensive to do at first (I?m generally not one for buying things like this sight-unseen), but I figured if there were any problems, at least I could go to my local GC. They didn?t have any in stock, so I really didn?t have any other choice than to order it. Delivery was extremely fast (about 3 days), and it arrived very well packed. Right out of the box, fit and finish were pretty much flawless! Perfect finish (I got the silverburst), and the neck, fingerboard, frets, inlays? all perfect. Very slight tweak to get the intonation dialed in, but all in all the setup, action, etc. were excellent. Strat pups in the neck and mid sound awesome! I?ve played some high-end American?s, and I would say the tone on these pups is as true a strat tone as you?re going to find anywhere. Bridge humbucker definitely has some power. They don?t appeal to everyone, but if you like that classic Fat Strat sound, this model definitely has it! Now for the two common complaints, which I will agree with, but neither of them are really that big of a deal to me. You?ll just have to decide how big of an issue they are for you. I love the fact that you can split the humbucker into single coil, but as others have pointed out, there is definitely a noticeable loss of volume when you split it. When you?re switching from one of the forward singles to the split bridge, I don?t think it?s that noticeable (especially with some gain). But you can definitely hear the level drop when you split it (humbucker compared to the split single coil). Not a big deal for me because I probably wouldn?t want to go from hum to split bridge in the middle of a song. But if you anticipate wanting to do that, it?s something to consider. I?ll also point out that while the neck and mid pups definitely give you a true strat tone, I wouldn?t say the bridge is quite as authentic sounding. It just not as bright as the neck and mid pups. Then again, it?s not a strat single coil, so I wouldn?t really expect it to sound like one. It still sounds decent tho, so I?m not really complaining about it. And the really nice thing with the coil split is that it gives you tone control on the bridge for both the humbucker and the split single? something most other strats don?t offer. The other common complaint is that it has the vintage style tuning heads. They can be a bit of a pain when it comes time to re-string, but then again, you?re only paying $400? they?ve gotta cut some corners to bring the price down. So, they give you cheaper tuning heads and the old style bridge, but those can easily be modified and you?re still going to come out ahead. Overall, if you want an affordable Fender-branded Strat, I think this is one of the best deals going right now. Yes, it?s MIC. Yes, there are some who just can?t look past that. But if you can, this is a great instrument for the price. Highly recommended.
