As reviewed by Robert on 8/5/2014

I came across this 4stringer bass through another reviewer at Youtube, the guy said it was a killer bass with lots of tonal possibilities: he was right! The thing with the Modern Player is that there's an extra switch on it that lets you link up the two hum buckers into 4 setups! I ordered this passive PU baby online and l had it delivered at GC. Took it home, outta the box and wow, what a look and feel: the Chinese Fender division really know their stuff. Earlier I had an '70s Jazz bass, a modded Squier which also had en excellent tone and quality, so I know when you buy Fender, you always get value for money. I also owned Ibanez SR, an older active 707 and a Gary Willis bass, but the quality of the latter I find was disappointing for a 750 buck bass... both sound and hardware. Not bad but far from pro. This JB is all pro: The finish on the maple neck is smooth, although there might be a purist out there wanting to take a lil off the varnish, but personally I like the feel of it, making the neck fast as hell. Also it's a thin neck so you go up and down fast! The frets om the maple board (this fretboard gives extra highs, brighter-ish sound) are standard I guess. The body is alder, and has a very cool black matte finish- you're gonna fall in love with the feel and look - I know I did :) The bridge is a Badass style bridge, and will last forever by the looks of it. The sound blew me away, plugging it at home in my Eden 4x10 amp: ranging from typical JB to Precision-ish sounds and a ton of other options as the 2 hum buckers can also be split into two single ones! Combine this with the tone knob and blending each coil will give you a sound ranging anywhere from Jaco Pastorius to Marcus Miller and then some. All in all, I have been playing semipro for 25 years, but in my humble opinion Fender is the best out of the box bass and definite value for money! In short, if you're looking for a road ready bass that has al the classic tones but lets you experiment a little, you can't go wrong with this exceptional well crafted 550 buck Fender Jazz Bass...

  • Head turning!!

As reviewed by BILLY CASTILLO on 4/23/2014

I just picked up this baby at GC and I cant believe how beautiful this beast is. I tried to test it out before buying it but I had no luck finding it. In pictures it looked great so I just went for it and ordered. When they guy at GC pulled it out from the box, everyone passing by stopped to look at it and told me how nice it looked. Pictures cant capture the beauty of this thing. Came home and plugged it and POW!!! The sounds of this thing are just insane. Truly a Jazz bass but it also gives a great Precision tone. The low action on the strings was a plus also.
