Fender Modern Player Jaguar Electric Guitar (H76269)
Availability:

A lean, mean, and stripped-down version of the classic Fender model.

Throughout its history, Fender has always made a special point of welcoming new players to the family by offering entry-level instruments of remarkable style and substance (such as the Duo-Sonic, Mustang and Musicmaster models), with great sound, classic looks, solid performance and eminent affordability. The Modern Player Series continues that great "my-first-Fender" tradition with thoroughly modern features and several distinctively unconventional new takes on Fender's most revered instruments—all with outstandingly attainable value.

The Modern Player Jaguar is a lean, mean and stripped-down version of the classic Fender model, with a full-throated pair of single-coil Modern Player MP-90 pickups on a sans-pickguard mahogany body. Other features include a C-shaped maple neck, rosewood fretboard with 9.5” radius and 21 medium jumbo frets, 3-way toggle pickup switching, Jazz Bass-style control knobs, vintage-style Adjusto-Matic bridge with anchored tailpiece, vintage-style tuners and nickel/chrome hardware.

  • Oh man, this guitar is cool! And what a price!

As reviewed by Kyle Covey on 10/23/2013

Great neck, simple features, and a myriad of tone! Sales guy mentioned its weight when he brought it over for me to check out, but it does not bother me. Mahogany body is quite fetching to the eye under the 2 tone chocolate burst. Pickups can be honky, or roll off the tone and have a velvet laden depth. I need to adjust the action for my taste, but it was set up well; also I want to put my preferred strings on, but the stock ones have good tone and are responsive. I found it played better than the more expensive Blacktop model. Check it out for yourself!

  • Solid guitar with solid tone

As reviewed by Luc Kisling on 7/24/2013

When the Modern Player Jaguar came out, I postponed buying a Jazzmaster (which I have done again and again... I still want one badly). I got this thing in Black transparent satin finish. The satin looks and feels awesome. The neck is your basic shortscale Jaguar neck with a rosewood board and a C-shape profile. The body is regular, except it has back-routings for the electronics. It has a 3-way toggle switch and two Jazz Bass knobs (one for tone, one for volume). The p90s, Tunte-O-Matic-style bridge, gibson-style tailpiece and strat-style input jack make this guitar look very unique. It's sound is very distinctive. The body is made of Mahogany, giving it a dark, punchy and strange tone. The p90s are strange. The bridge pickup is very bright, trebly and almost quacks like a strat's bridge pickup. It can sound a little abrasive and unusable at times. The neck pickup is very mellow and a bit dark. The middle position is great. It sounds very jangly and bright, but the neck pickup's mellowness subdues the obnoxious things about the bridge pickup. The bridge works well, but the tailpiece isn't for me. I am a huge fan of Jazzmasters and I dig Jaguars too. The traditional Jazzmaster/Jaguar tailpiece is the best tremolo system I have encountered and I wish it were present on this guitar. All in all, the guitar plays really well. I hate the short-scale on it, though. I'm a Jazzmaster fan for it's pickups, simpler layout, and it's full scale-length (which is the same as Strats and Teles). My big hands are not as comfortable maneuvering this guitar as they are on a full-scale guitar. Anyway, the Jaguar is smooth and loose, which allows me to really feel it. It stands in great contrast with my frigid-feeling Gretsch. The pickups are anecdotally appropriate on their own, but universally pleasing when they are both on. The biggest issue I have with the guitar is that it refuses to stay in tune. The reason I gave it a 3/5 is because it does it's job well, but it doesn't go above and beyond my expectations. If you like small-scale guitars, p90s, gibson-style bridge/tailpieces, etc... and are looking for a very solidly-built, reliable guitar with a distinctive tone, I reccoment this guitar. For me, there are many others that top this one.

  • Amazing Bargain

As reviewed by Adam Ellison on 9/2/2013

I went to GC the other day just cause I was excited what with all the newer kind of stuff fender and gibson were putting out. And let me tell you, I don't own this guitar yet but I will. Just about all of the newer stuff felt like trash til' I picked this up ended up playing it for about an hour I was going back and forth between this and the Gibson les paul special w/ 3 knobs the only two newer electrics put out by our coveted brands that felt like they were worth their salt. I actually had a hard time finding this guitar on the net cuz I was completely convinced this was a jazzmaster because it played so nice and it feel like a short-scale, and it also explains the pleasant twanginess I heard from it-but it wasn't in your face because the p90's and mahogany body balance it out pretty nicely. I am not a fan of short-scales having owned a mustang in the past I found they didn't offer any sustain and were more difficult to play at the bottom of the neck, not the case for this guitar IDK maybe its because it has a better bridge. It sounded beautiful clean and fuzzy. Fender got this one right and it cost less than an mim too!
