Stylish, soulful, and astounding, the Fender Marcus Miller Jazz Bass has an ash body, distinctive black pickguard and control plate, one-piece C-shaped maple neck and fretboard with white binding and pearl block inlays, and a satin finish. This bass is a machine!!!! It plays and sounds like Miller's own. I've played several different types of basses and I've never come across one that covers so many different varieties. What really sold me was the "active to passive" switch. The tone is unmatched for a bass at this price range. Besides the tone, this jazz bass looks awesome. It's got a really nice natural wood finish, and looks like a bass for a more "mature" audience. I've only owned it for a about a week but I cannot put it down. This bass will be with me until I die.
I've had this now for about 3-4 years now so I think i have an honest opinion. After having it so long i've come to realize that this particular bass is very heavy. It is heavier than most other basses so if you plan to carry it make sure you get a wide leather strap. Also the electronics are not that great. You can get a sort of Hum because it is not grounded properly. To combat this you can either fix it or buy a Monster Instrument Bass cable. worked for me. Other than that it has been a very reliable, strong toned bass that can fix any style of music. It is my favorite bass. I've had a fender jazz standard, and a warwick fretless corvette and this is still my favorite.
What can I say, this bass will without a doubt be a collectors item one day! For starters, the tone of this bad boy is amazing. You can easily switch between active or passive mode to achieve a wide array of tones within seconds. The feel of this bass is also incredible. The neck is very smooth and fast which makes it suitable for any style. All I can say is that I had never cared for Fenders before I played this instrument, but this bass has certainly changed my mind! Some important things to note for potential buyers: This bass is heavy. I come from MusicMan backgrounds so I`m use to heavy basses, but this one feels even heavier than my StingRay. The bass only has 20 frets. Not a huge issue but one that should be noted. The neck is only a 3-bolt which is rumored to cause constant truss rod adjustments, however I`ve experienced no such problem in over a years time. The 'bell' over the pickup gets in the way a lot and covers the basses 'sweet spot' so you`ll probably need to remove it. Access to the battery pocket requires a screwdriver which is a pain(again considering I come from MusicMan backgrounds). Overall, this bass is still a 5-star and a must have for any players arsenal.
