  • Awesome Acoustic Bass

As reviewed by tony holcomb on 10/21/2013

I love this bass. Bought it at the Charleston store and got a deal. Service people were good to work with. By itself it sounds good but when plugged into an amp has some deep low frequency responses that will rattle your chest. Doesn't loose mids or highs either when scale runs. the neck makes it feel like an old friend since I have a Jazz and a Precision.

  • Kingman is King of acoustic basses!

As reviewed by Ryne Jones on 3/26/2012

This bass has a really great attack to it! Really smooth, in's the smoothest i've ever felt on a bass so far. Really easy for those hard technical bass riffs, really simple for those groovy funk riffs. This bass is definitely worth the money and is one of the highlights in my collection!

  • Wonderful stage ready acoustic bass

As reviewed by Scott on 8/29/2014

Its hard not to give the Kingman a five star, because it is pretty and looks fierce with the fender electric headstock. The body is delicately proportioned, making it a fairly comfortable lap guitar in comparison to some other bulky models at the lower end of the market. It is my preferred instrument with the Slow Boat Home. I've found the bass to have an appropriate sound for blues, country-jug, rag, folk, and funky soul. Its probably not suited to a metal band... unless they are doing in an unplugged thing; in which case, yeah look into it. The bass has a great transfer to amplified sound. If I can be critical of the Kingman it would be to say this; Its slightly top heavy, which can make standing with the instrument awkward in certain positions. The input jack serves as the back strap connector in a touch of elegance; However, the jack has been slightly temperamental. When played acoustically there can be some vibration sounds coming from the pickup housing box, on top of the guitar. This is something more noticeable to the player, rather than the crowd. That said it is fun to play acoustically because it has some tone character on its own. Chillin on a park bench playing some bass grooves (Unplugged). Plugging the instrument in really is what this acoustic bass is made for with the Fishman electronics pickup. Sounds great. Clear. No fret-buzzing along the neck. The Fishman sound is great. Amplifying this bass and getting the tone in the room is simple with the tuner and the three parameter EQ. I think this bass has a lot going for it. A fretless version would be interesting??? I think the image and tone of the bass is more suited to bassist who play upright. You can't help but play some straight honky tonk blues with the Kingman. There probably are more than a few acoustic basses that can equal or out due the Kingman in some way, shape, or form. I think it will hold up against anything in the market under $1,000 retail... Basically, I think this fender is a really good value.
