Fender Jim Adkins JA-90 Telecaster Electric Guitar (528018)

A signature semi-hollowbody Telecaster with soapbar pickups!

When platinum-selling Jimmy Eat World guitarist and frontman Jim Adkins cheerfully challenged Fender by throwing down the gauntlet of designing his perfect electric guitar, a collaboration began that resulted in the Fender JA-90 Telecaster. Fender sat down with Adkins and went over his old Fender TC-90 spec by spec, making some important changes that subsequently produced this unique new model. The Jim Adkins Telecaster guitar has a mahogany neck set into a semi-hollow ash body, Seymour Duncan Soapbar pickups, independent volume and tone controls, an Adjusto-Matic bridge and anchored tailpiece. The high-output Custom Soapbar SP90-3 pickup uses two large ceramic magnets for extra output, compressed dyanamics, and sharper attack. The full frequency response delivers extra punch. The Vintage Soapbar SP90-1 has short, wide bobbins for higher output and more powerful midrange than Strat or Tele single-coils. The tone is sweet and smooth.

  • One Small Set Back...

As reviewed by Tyler Foran on 10/3/2013

You'll never want another guitar again. Plain and simple. That tone you get from the body resonating and the Seymour Duncans... woo! The bridge pick up is the perfect kind of crunch, and the neck pick up is so warm, you could easily use it as a go to for acoustic sounds. Blend them together? ::COUGHperfectionCOUGH:: I have to warn you, when you play it... make sure you have a friend in the room, because you'll need all the help you can get to find your socks after they've been rocked off. I use Rotosound 10s on this bad boy and the two of them to together are the best pairing ever! I love this guitar, I've played a ton in my day, traded in a Gibson Les Paul to get it... yeah, that good. I've always been a fan of Fender and their consistent quality. That being said, the input jack was loose out of the box but Fender is awesome and stand by their product and got it warranty repaired at the Guitar Center in town. Love it! This guitar needs to be played, it's a perfect fit, feel, sound, I don't know how you couldn't enjoy it. The neck through design the... okay, I'm going to go all night about this guitar, so instead... I'm just going to go play it some more.

  • Great Neck!

As reviewed by Steve on 5/9/2011

What a cool guitar. It's built really well for an Indonesian guitar. The neck feels superb and the resonance is awesome. Be prepared the neck pickup is dark even for a P90. I immediately removed mine and replaced with a Lollar P90 and the guitar really shaped up to be more versatile. For a realy easy mod I replaced the stop tailpiece with a vibramate and Bigsby B5.

  • Another bad one

As reviewed by Rick on 9/2/2009

Well. The last 4 Fenders I have bought have been bad out of the box. This one the bridge pup did not work. So I left it at the shop for another week or two. I dont remember, Has been at the shop longer then it has been at home. The strings on this brand new guitar were rusted and the frets were all tarnished. The finish sanding before the finish on it was less then desirable and the finish itself is rather crappy. Has holes and bumps in it. Very sad to see Fenders quality drop to this low. So I got it back yesterday fixed. I checked it and it worked. Took it to a gig last night and it broke. Same problem. No bridge pup. My other new Tele Custom Spalted maple broke last night also. It lost its tone pot. I think I am done with Fender. I hope they dont pull this because it does not praise Fender but the truth hurts sometimes.
