  • If Only It Had a 1.75" Wide Nut

As reviewed by Rob Darby on 2/2/2014

This IS an amazing little guitar. I played several different smaller-bodied guitars at a local GC, looking for one that sounded and felt right for fingerstyle playing, and the Fender Grand Concert 140SCE(which is the full designation for this model) was the one I had to buy. The solid spruce top and the smaller body design add up to very good clarity--especially for an instrument in this price range. I do wish they would have given it a 1.75" nut instead of the 1.69. It's a little narrow for fingerstyle, but having fairly skinny fingers, I have managed. The tone is better for fingerstyle than somewhat more expensive Alvarez and Breedlove guitars. The neck, while a bit narrow, has a thin back-to-front profile, which makes it more comfortable than the tree-trunks on some other models. You will likely have to adjust the action (or have a qualified tech do so), as it's not as player-ready as it could be upon purchase. Still, the only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the nut width. If you're okay with 1.69, you won't be unhappy with this. I noticed the price has come down since I purchased. Jump on it!

  • I love this guitar!

As reviewed by JENNIFER BERNALES on 12/11/2013

I'm still a novice but this is my second guitar. The first one that I bought was Takamine but I decided to sell it because I didn't like the way it feels when I play it. I bought this directly from Guitar Center. It was the very first guitar that I saw when I enter the door in the Acoustic section. When I tried to play it, I realized that this is the guitar that I was looking for. The neck is a bit narrow and the strings are closer to the neck, which makes it a bit easier and smoother to play compared to other guitars. I tried the other guitars at Guitar Center but I always come back to this one. It's good for beginners like me 'coz it takes awhile for my fingers too hurt compared to other guitars which takes only 5-10 mins. I can practice longer it this guitar. My friends love it too. They tried playing it and told me that they like the way it feels. It's lighter and it sounds good too.
