  • Better than I thought

As reviewed by H. J. Woodcox on 5/15/2009

This guitar was a surprise right our of the case. For me, the factory set up was perfect. I can use a slide, and fret chords with no problem. I haven't been able to put this guitar down since I purchased it a week ago. It is not as loud as my National Tricone, but that is to be expected. Even with the slight lack of volume, it projects that cool "reso" tone. The finish is very pretty with it's glossy polyurethane coat. Maybe a nitrose finish would have helped the volume a bit, but then the instrument would have cost more. The cutaway is also a plus...as I need to get to the 15th fret on the first two strings with the slide bar. So, in my opinion, this instrument is well worth the money. I wouldn't mind having another one to keep in a different tuning. If anybody is on the fence about purchasing this instrument, just go ahead and buy it! It's not a National, but it IS worth the money for what you get. Enjoy...

Very pretty finish. Not very loud acoustically. Plent of volume plugged in. Lot's of fun to try something different. Tele pick-up and cone transducer for lots of tonal variation.

  • Fender? FR50CE Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Resonator

As reviewed by Joe on 1/3/2007

I play a lot of blues, many different styles but country blues is my favourite eg Robert Johnson etc and I use this guitar for slide only. This guitar is a good tool for the job. Eventhough it is an electro acoustic/Cutaway the tone while plugged out is of good quality. The pickups: there are two of them with a volume knob for each, one near the bridge and one inside the resonator cone. The bridge pickup gives a nice crisp tone which may be altered further with a tone knob. The rosonator pickup gives the distinctive resonator sound but it tends to give a lot of horrible feedback if you dont get the balance right. The feedback is the only real flaw I find with this guitar, that being said though it plays well plugged in well (with vol mixed right) and unplugged it is more than a match for epiphone rosonators that are not available as electro-acoustic. The price was quite reasonable too I got mine in Music Maker in Dublin Ireland for ?520.
