pretty good for the money

This is quality mandolin for the price you pay, however straight out of the box it won't sound as good as it can. first of all you'll probably need to adjust the bridge to eliminate fret buzz. if you don't know how to do that you should have someone show you the first time you try. a second reccomendation is to remove the pick gaurd. This greatly improves the volume you get out of the mandolin because it removes a giant piece of plastic from covering one of the sound holes, plus it looks better in my opinion. finally get new strings ASAP because the foreign ones they come with aren't nearly as good. I reccomend gibson sam bush strings. all in all the solid spruce top is an awesome feature and will give a much better sound than laminated top mandolins, and for the price it's an awesome buy.

A great instrument

I love this instrument. It's important to have a hatchet that plays well and this one really does. The action is great, the sound is sweet. I put the bridge really low and it still doesn't buzz. The bridge needed nudging a little into the right place, but otherwise it was perfect right out of the box. It's a joy to play and I play it most days.

Great Mandolin

The Fender FM-53S acoustic mandolin is a great sounding instrument for an affordable price. I've loved the mandolin ever since I got it. Make sure to replace the strings that are on the mandolin when you buy it, and you will love the sound.
