  • I tried the fb-54 and loved it

As reviewed by brett on 3/31/2008

I have only been playing a short time, but felt ready to beyond a beginners banjo. I tried others such as the Deering Goodtime, but absolutely fell in love with the smoothness and tone of the Fender. I was able to play it faster and smoother than my own even though I just picked up the Fender. I could not leave without buying one. I found the wider neck of the Deering awkward, but the neck of the Fender was absolute joy. And let me tell you, the Fender is some looker.

  • Anniversary Banjo

As reviewed by Rapter on 8/31/2011

I read all the reviews I could find on banjos within my price range. Then I went to sample them at various stores. The FB-54 is the one that stuck with me & have owned it for several months now. Cheaper ones seemed almost toy like. I looked at more expensive models and wondered why they cost so much. The FB-54 fit within my budget and it sounded and played great. Couldn't find a better one for the price and many seem way over priced to me - maybe it is the banjo fad that seems to be reviving causing the price increases. Guitar Center set it up while I watched and learned. Fit & finish it beautiful. The action is a tad high, but I learned how to fix that. This is more than just a beginner banjo in my opinion. Still wondering why some cost twice as much and I couldn't tell much if any difference. The only thing that might cheapen the value is the "Made In China" on the underside of the tuning head. This is a beautiful instrument and a pleasure to play. I would suggest a hard case if you are serious with this instrument and watch for sales with discount coupons. Get extra strings, picks, and maybe a bridge on the initial purchase. The Guitar Center store on 75 and Southwestern in Dallas probably had the best staff there that helped in this purchase and set up.
