  • Excellent beginner guitar

As reviewed by Javi on 9/10/2010

This guitar was my first acoustic and I bought it to hone my chops playing rhythm and singing. The accessories were of ok quality, but I gave them to my cousin who's beginning guitar. I bought a nice leather strap, Martin medium phosphor bronze strings and Tusq bridge pins (the bridge is already Tusq). It sounds great, if you like a mellow sound. To my ears, it's on the mellow & warm side. But... the action is nice and this guitar feels great in your hands; no problem changing chords. The tuning is very stable and the finish is nice. I waxed the finish and conditioned the fretboard and the guitar looks like a million bucks. This guitar has stood up to two years now of heavy, Sun-era style Elvis strumming. Once I've had a few whiskeys and play "That's Alright Mama" I beat the cr@p out of it and it delivers great sound every time! There is very slight fret wear from my strumming, but I'm impressed to how it's held up. I'm ready to upgrade to a Martin, since I want that beautiful, crisp Martin sound. For a beginner, you can't beat the value this pack gives you. To my ears, the guitar is a bit too mellow-sounding for me, but nonetheless this guitar is excellent to learn on. You can't go wrong with it!

  • Quality tone and finish

As reviewed by JAson on 11/7/2008

I was skeptical about buying a "Value Pack" guitar, but after sitting and playing this guitar, I was pleasantly surprised. While it is made in China, dont let that scare you off. The fit and finish on my instrument is top-notch. The finish was flawless and there are no signs of a rushed or careless assembly, like scratches, nicks, or globs of dried glue anywhere on the guitar. The factory strings were surprisingly comfortable and the action is perfect! Not enough can be said about the full, round tone either, it may be due to the quality bridge and the solid top, but it does sound like a much more expensive guitar than it is. The "extras" it came with are OK. The spare "Fender" strings are nice freebies, and so is the gig bag (though it is NOT a replacement for a good hard case) and the included tuner is decent. The strap is functional but nothing special. I havent watched the instructional DVD yet. Its a great looking and sounding guitar and I have to admit, having "Fender" on the headstock without the word "Squier" anywhere near it is nice too! This is probably the best value for the price in acoustic guitars.

got this guitar not too long ago from a friend. its def better than my old guitar (epiphone DR100) and let me tell you, this guitar is AMAZING!! i wouldnt take a martin or a taylor over this thing (even tho i do want one lol) but when i got it, it needed a little work. the action was wayy too high. but a few turns on the truss rod fixed that. then i put some elixr's on it and the tone came out!! my friend plays a 800 dollar ibanez and is jealous of this guitar. but i did notice the sound was a tad muddy, but its hardly noticeable. if your thinking of getting this guitar, dont think. GET IT NOW!!!! im getting a duncan woody to put in it so i can play some gigs with it. hope this helped your decision!!! keep on rockin
