Overview

This special guitar honors the Stratocaster's very first model year and is finely crafted with a rich selection of features and appointments, in addition to a New-Old-Stock treatment that creates the effect of a well-preserved, yet vintage instrument.

The one-piece ash body is wonderfully light and responsive. It bares a nitrocellulose lacquer finish in a choice of colors that don't inhibit in any way the body's natural brightness or resonance.

The one-piece quartersawn maple neck has a wonderfully comfortable 1954 "U"-shaped profile and tinted lacquer finish. The maple fingerboard has a 9.5" radius, slightly flatter than the original, and twenty-one 6105 frets for smooth modern playability.

Three 1954 single-coil Stratocaster pickups deliver a singing original-era voice. They're not overwound and have just the right amount of response to capture all the gorgeous tone that the ash body and maple neck produce. A 5-way switch, instead of the original 3-way, is added to this vintage recreation, bringing the mixed-pickup settings that Strat players rely on.

Other features include a single-ply white pickguard, synchronized tremolo bridge with six "patent pending" saddles and serial number-stamped trem plate (a special 1954 touch), vintage-style tuners and nickel-chrome hardware. The guitar comes in a tweed "center-pocket" case with Stratocaster 60th Anniversary embroidery and an included 60th Anniversary commemorative book.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop 1954 NOS Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have played several Fender Stratocasters' in order to find one that I really liked to play and also one that has great tone. I started with the more affordable Stratocasters' which I played at local music stores. I found that I liked the Standard with regular pickups much better than the Deluxe with noiseless pickups. The noiseless pickups did not do it of me ... at all. I then tried some artists models including the Eric Clapton and Eric Johnson Stratocasters'. The Eric Clapton does something weird with the tone circuit that surely was not what I was looking for. It really did not have a classic Stratocaster sound. Also, being a recording engineer and an audiophile ... I could hear anomalies created by the TBX mid-range boost. I really did not care for the tone of this guitar personally. I then tried an Eric Johnson Stratocaster. This guitar is a winner in a big way. By far the most bang for the buck and probably one of the nicest sounding Stratocasters' that I have player and heard. The mastering engineer that checked out the EJ Stratocaster agreed. I will be purchasing the EJ and will make it part of my collection without question. The EJ Stratocaster is as close as you can get to a Fender Custom Shop guitar. It has a pure Stratocaster sound. Then, looking for something a little different in both looks and tone ... I purchased this "54 NOS Stratocaster. All I can say is WOW. This is one beautiful, sweet sounding, easy playing guitar. The setup out of the box was crazy spot on! The action was perfect and even with a sophisticated tuner with 0.02 cent accuracy the intonation was spot on. This is a 100% keeper in my collection alongside the EJ Stratocaster which I also enjoy. These two guitars are different enough to be worthy of their own individual praise. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking for as close to the ultimate Stratocaster as you can get without breaking the bank! Awesome.

Comments about Fender Custom Shop 1954 NOS Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

bought this on sale - it wasn't on my 'want list' but i couldn't resist the great price - such a great guitar: the finish is outstanding - amazing feel and playability. i purchased the black version, and it is an instant classic. the neck is the best feature of the guitar, nice size and very smooth the nitro finish is very thin and not too sticky. case candy is a plus (although i am not a big fan of the custom shop strap - why so long?) -

any how, this is one fine guitar, if i had the money i would buy one in every color available. might be time for a second mortgage.
