Look to the Relic series for instruments that evoke reminiscence of classic Fender electric guitars and basses of the 1950s and 1960s with all the nicks expected from years of playing. The relic line of Stratocaster guitars, Telecaster guitars, Precision basses, and Jazz basses are skillfully aged using techniques that make them look "distressed". Thanks to Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones who originally proposed the idea to the Fender Custom Shop, the story told is that he commissioned Fender instruments for a Stones tour and when they arrived he stated the axes "looked too new," further saying "bash 'em up a bit and I'll play 'em". Offered in grades of wear from light to heavy, Fender Custom Relic guitars and basses look like well-traveled veterans of the road.
Fender Custom Shop artist signature and tribute series are closely related, and in some cases built in collaboration with the artist. Now you can own a near-exact replica of the instruments played by artists like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Yngwie Malmsteen, Rory Gallagher, David Gilmour, and many more. Also offered from the Fender Custom Shop are NOS (new old stock) and Closet Classic models that come with period-correct parts, designs, and finishes to give you instruments strong in vintage appeal, ready to forge that classic tone that helped shape rock 'n' roll itself.
