• The most versatile guitar I've ever encountered

  The Blacktop fulfilled all my greatest expectations and is a fantastic guitar for the price. I prefer the Blacktop over American-made telecasters which are double the price of the Blacktop or more. The Blacktop is for guitarists who love the clean sound and playability of the telecaster, with great opportunity for a beefy tone which is fantastic for metal, punk, grunge, etc. because of the plated dual humbuckers. This is really the most versatile guitar I've ever encountered, and I'm extremely pleased with it.

  This Guitar sounds great. It covers a wide range of tones from crunchy medal to jazzy cleans. The neck pick-up is great for those clean rhythm parts and the bridge pick-up can get pretty nasty (in a good way). I love the look of the guitar, I got the C.A.R. and the fit and finish is great. The only thing I would like is having a coil-split. That would make it perfect. I would recommend this guitar.

  I purchased a butterscotch Squire CV Tele on Labor Day weekend and month later I purchased my candy apple red Blacktop Tele. Here is my observation on both guitars. Packaging of Squire was way more professional than Fender?s, but neither guitars were damaged in shipping, both guitars have a different feel in the neck which I wished fender would come up with some standardization maybe specifying three neck sizes for different hand sizes (Small, Medium and Large) then each consumer would select the one best for his/her hand size. I have two Squire Bullets Japanese made from 1985 with Tele necks, one with single coil pickups and one with hum-buckers and both have a same size neck (manufactured in same company) and they are thin and narrow which I love because my hands are small, but neither of CV Tele or Blacktop are that thin and narrow. Other than the neck sizes both guitars have a different sound to them as expected and both sound great and I love them both. There is two issues with Blacktop that bothers me and I have read other people?s reviews which they have experienced same problem and that is the Tone control on Blacktop acts more like a switch than a knob, it only works in the 0 ? 2 range and after that does not have any effect. I even went back to GC and checked their store model and Blacktop Stratocaster and they both had the same problem. What I?m surprised that Fender allowed release of these guitars because I?m 100% sure they test their electronics and they are aware of this issue and they must not have a fix for this, otherwise they would have done it. My Squire Bullet with hum-bucker from 1985 Tone control works fine even though the pickups are not as good as sounding as blacktop. I?m keeping both guitars, even though I feel Fender needs to recall and fix the Tone control on Blacktops. I even searched on Internet to see anybody has a fix and one person suggested changing the capacitor and another person had tried it but didn't fix the problem. One more thing the knobs on blacktop even though I don?t care they are amp knobs or regular Tele knob, they do not set straight or close to pick-guard which it is not a big deal and it is only cosmetic but they should pay more attention to their quality of work. Other than this two issues, both guitars sound great and I would recommend both of them.
