  • I made a mistake

As reviewed by Mike on 12/26/2006

DO NOT buy this just because it's 100 watts you think it will go over a drummer, because it won't. It's nowhere near as much power you need to play in a band with. You could barely hear it when a drummer or someone else is playing. There's much better you can buy for the price.

  • Bassman 100 compact power

As reviewed by BassProf on 10/17/2006

A 51-year-old college professor and hobbyist player, I was looking for a replacement bass amp for an Ibanez SW35, an amplifier I was pleased with, but, which, at 35 watts, doesn?t have much headroom. I?d originally planned to buy a Behringer, after my college freshman son had an excellent experience with his BXL1800. As great a value as the Behringer is, it is regrettably too heavy for this old man to tote around. After scanning various manufacturers? sites, it became clear that the best price/performance/size/weight choice is the smallest in Fender?s Bassman series. At 25 lbs., the unit is very light and compact relative to the sound it puts out, and the excellent features (e.g., knob rather than slider-controlled equalizer, output to PA, etc.) make it practical for use in a variety of playing environments. (Slightly larger and heavier, the 150 might make a better choice for a gigging bassist). The Bassman 100 makes my ?82 Fender Bullet Bass sound like a ?real? precision. Highly recommended.

  • Worst built amp I ever used -Shame on Fender!

As reviewed by Ken on 11/15/2007

I loved the sound and design so I bought it (amp #1). After 2 weeks of light use, the sound died out. The store replaced it with another (amp #2). Same thing happened to that one too. The store replaced it again (amp #3). After one week, the light on the power switch burnt out. That was it for me. Time to look at another brand. (Note that I had my bass checked out by an authorized repair person to make sure that it wasnt damaging the amps and found out that my bass was ok). I went to another store to see what other amps I may be interested in buying. I used one of their basses and tried ampegs, rolands, etc and they all worked fine. I then plugged into the Bassman 100 (amp #4)that they had on the showroom to compare the other amps to it and that Bassman was dead too. Even the experienced salesman could not get it to work. Throughout this ordeal, I made several calls to Fender Customer Service regarding these amps. I kept asking if there was a problem with this particular model. They always said no and told me to return the amps to the store where I bought them or bring them to an authorized repair shop. Even when I told them that 4 out of 4 amps crapped out, they would not fess up to problems with the Bassman 100 amp. I have owned at least 6 guitar amps over the past 40 years without any problems. I am very gentle with my guitars and amps and this Bassman 100 is really a big disappointment. Fender should be ASHAMED. I doubt if I will ever bother with another fender product.
