• The American Standard Strat...The Every Mans Guitar

  Just Picked up the "New" American Standard Strat. The 1st couple of things I noticed were the new pick ups sound GREAT, and there's better sustain...But what hasn't changed is what what has made the Standard A legend in the 1st place...The look, the feel, the sound, and most important the way in plays. feels like an old friend from the moment you play the 1st note. The New colors are great also, Mine is the Candy Cola red with a Rosewood fretboard. Fender took a Legend and improved it. The American Standard is still the Every Mans Guitar!

• Is Fender Coming Back?

  I have had many Fender Strats over the years. Pick up one made in the 60s or 70s and it will send chills down your spine. You hear this kind of quality in many classic rock bands of the era. You end up with a Fender Strat that sits unplayed. But I don't know, maybe Fender is coming back. The wife brought me this guitar home and I played and said, Wow! It was like going back. The fret board is maple and it is flawless. The action is bone chilling wonderful. You feel the vibration in the neck and against your body and you hear the resonation and sustaian through the amp. It doesn't quite compare to a 62 re-issue, but pretty darn close. Good job Fender! It's about time.

• 2012 Fender American Standard in Arctic White

  I waited more than a year to write a review that avoids the honeymoon flush of emotions. This is what I'd like to know if I was a working musician who's never before played a standard Strat to any basic extent: I used to take three, sometimes four guitars to gigs. Now I just take two--an acoustic-electric and my Strat. This is an obvious testament to its versatility in terms of tone, genre of music, and portability. If you have a well-designed and flexible amp--mine is a 60W Fender Concert (designed by Rivera) for example--you can dial almost ANY tone out of it, even without a Boss rig, for example. The most difficult tone is a jazzbox humbucker, but it gets REAL CLOSE, please believe me. One final point: The tuners are tremendously accurate, stable and reliable. Nothing stinks more than going out of tune during a performance...you just can't stop and retune, and string bending just doesn't QUITE hack it if you're doing any kind of rhythm chord work...never had any issues like this with my American Standard. I know I may be offending the Gods of the Guitar here, but, seriously...after having played for more years than I care to remember, I prefer this Strat over any Gibby LP I've ever played. The polyurethaned maple neck ALONE seals the deal for me.
