Newly designed tuners and bridge modernize this classic!

This American Standard Series Precision Bass has a vintage body radius and contour for a classic vibe and feel. The body is rendered in premium alder for optimum tone and sustain. Its rosewood or maple fretboard features detailed fret and nut work. The neck is graphite-reinforced and has rolled edges for a broken-in feel from the get-go. HMV (high-mass vintage) bridge increases sustain, provides punchier tone, beefier looking plates, and 3/8" diameter vintage saddles. String height adjustment screws have nylon patches for a tight fit that won't vibrate loose.

A 12-gauge cold rolled steel plate machined brass backstop increases mass, enhances top end. Socket head intonation screws are engineered for a tighter fit, and are more stable. Features Fender®/Hipshot® tuning keys. They work great and are 30% lighter, minimizing neck dip. Classic 20:1 tuning ratio, cast zinc with aluminum string posts and mounting nuts, and steel clovers. Brass worm gears, steel worm drives.

With a thinner undercoat, the American Standard P Bass body breathes easier and has improved sound (more wood influence). Neck pocket paint buildup has been reduced by 40%, greatly improving the wood to wood connection/reaction.

SKB rectangular-design case, exclusive to Fender, has TSA recognized and accepted locks. Fiberglass reinforced nylon trigger release latching system, indestructible cushioned rubber over-molded handle with flush lock out. Injection molded feet and exclusive arched stacking system.

  • Precision Bass up-grades are fantastic

As reviewed by svtspazz on 12/8/2008

I own a 2006 model American Standard jazz bass and I notice a definite across the board quality difference in the 2008 Precision bass. This bass sounds and plays amazing. The pick-ups are rich, punchy, and extremely clear. The neck is very smooth and a joy to play. It's very close to the 70's P-bass I had and sold (big mistake) and is my main bass now. I have the triple sun-burst model and it looks lovely. I play through a classic 70's SVT and I think this bass and the SVT are a match made in "heaven". Fender's attention to detail with this bass are right on the mark. If you need a pro-quality rock bass you've found it!

  • Fender American P-Bass

As reviewed by Dan Green on 3/11/2010

I have several Fender basses all of which are not USA made. The quality of all of them are excellent but you cannot beat this American Standard P-Bass. It plays like butter and has enough punch to keep up with some active basses. I love this bass and the maple fingerboard with the Charcoal Frost Metallic finish set this off from the rest. I would rate this a 10 out of 10.

  • It's all you need!!!

As reviewed by Ragin' Rog on 6/6/2010

This bass is all you'll ever need to play any Rock based music; including Blues, Punk, Metal, and Classic Rock. Just plug in, set your amp, and you're good to go for the night. Having owned and gigged eveything from Fender Jazz basses, Rickenbackers, StingRays, Bongos, and BC Rich Eagles; the American Standard P bass does the job, and does it well. All the talk about a bass requiring versatility is overrated. The slightly different tones you get from dual-pickup basses is very minimal in the "band-mix" or "front of house" sound. The tone knob on the P bass is sufficient for variety in sound. The simplicity of a P bass is also very nice. Now keep in mind, that I'm relating this opinion as to how a P bass fits into the genres I mentioned above. Bass players playing in fusion/funk/ jazz bands, that requires more of a solo-type presence will likely need more than a P bass. The new features (rolled neck, bridge, case) are minimal to some, but I can honestly say, that aside from a pickguard change, it's the first American P bass I've kept STOCK. It's great as it is, so get down to your local GC and check one out.
