NEW REVIEW - Simply the Best!
I owned a SR300 for 2 mos that I never played before I played and brought this 3 weeks ago, essentially making this my 1st bass.
First off I can not say enough about the fit and finish of this instrument. This rig was crafted beautifully from tip to tail and has a manageable, balanced feel to it though it takes a little getting used.
As for the sound, it's perfect. The rauchy tone of the P-bass is legendary and unmistakable yet versatile enough to play pretty much anything from Blues to Country (beleive it or not).
Caveat: The neck on this model is huge! As a beginner this has taken some time to get used to. Please keep this in mind before committing to this purchase or if you like the feel and action of the J-bass or similar models.
Overall This bass is simply the BEST. Period!

Nothing Like a P Bass
I have an SR500 and my first Bass which is a squire P that now belong to my son. I had to add this new and improved P bass to my arsenal. There are just some licks that sound better on a P than on a Jazz and this is the P-Bass you have to have!!! The Playability is excellent - one of the most comfortable, light, modern bass guitars I've ever played. Sounds fantastic, offering booming lows and crystal clear highs, I have the Sunburst with the maple neck, and it is just beautiful. Also the hard-shell case it comes with is very solid, TSA approved locks, nice plush interior. Well worth the money; you won't need another, ever.

At Fender's best
First I would like to say that this bass is phenomenal.
Neck - All of Fender's necks are maple so there is nothing really to say here, but this has the most smooth going neck and makes it very comfortable to play.
Finger board - I recommend maple. Rosewood has a grungier sound, which is not always a bad thing. But I think maple had the twilly/bright sound I was looking for.
Body - The one I have is alder, it is all opinion.
Frets - Cut nicely, don't jut out.
Hardware - Nice is all I can say. The tuning pegs could be better though.
Stringing - You can string through the back or the bridge. I prefer the back because it tightens the strings more.
Pickups - A single split which is very well in its use. I love it.
Overall - I love this bass. Has the tone to go from smooth, to punchy when you need it. My best buy.

Excelent Feel, Excelent Tone
The P bass is the best bass I've ever played. I came from a Epiphone eb-3 and those things a pain the butt, it's headstock it heavy and hurt my shoulder blade. But with the Fender, the feel and light weight bass is just awesome. With just the simple two nobs, volume and tone, makes it as simple as snapping your fingers. Nothing can go wrong with this bass!

Astounding Bass!
I consider this to be my first "real" bass. The other bass I own is a squire bronco bass, and as great as that was for becoming an intermediate player, but it was pretty limited, tone-wise. This is an astounding imoprovement! I got mine in the 3-tone sunburst with maple neck, and it's absolutely beautiful. The neck is smooth as butter. Whoever said the p-bass is limited tonally is completely wrong. I find that I can play almost any style I want with just a few adjustments to my EQ. I highly, highly reccomend this bass!!

amazing
The fender american standard precision bass is among the best playing/sounding basses for the money. the 3 tone sunburst is beautiful and the neck feels great. i have heard friends say that it isnt versatile, but i get a nice punchy and clear sound when picking but also can get a deep bassy sound when fingering, as well as a great slap tone. this bass might seem expensive for not a lot of features, but it has monster tone and the great american made quality that fender is known for. combine this with the great sound and this bass is one of the best for the money. don't cheat yourself with another bass- this one is the real deal. props to fender for making an amazing bass!

The Bass!
This is the bass. Yeah J basses are nice but not as nice as these. P basses can play any style of music and sound good this and the MM stingray are the only bass,s i can say that about because J bass's sometimes don't sound great on hard rock or metal songs and yeah they may be better at slap and but still the P bass can play slap although not like the J bass can but overall the P bass is better. The stingray is good to but not like the P bass this bass plays with soul on Mowtown songs, can whale on rock and metal songs, has great sustain for slower songs, and don't even get me started about the blues. Overall this is a great bass I highly recommend it and don't settle for a Squire, MIM, or a highwayone bass get the real deal

Look What We Have Here
What do we have here? A great bass with great sound thats what. The precision bass is an awesome guitar for almost any style of music or play. It has a very clanky, bassy sound to it that I love but alas everything has flaws. The bass isnt the most kick "butt" looking bass for a metal performance and the strings that it comes with get filthy very fast. Besides that I definitely recommend this bass for all players.

Precision Bass up-grades are fantastic
I own a 2006 model American Standard jazz bass and I notice a definite across the board quality difference in the 2008 Precision bass. This bass sounds and plays amazing. The pick-ups are rich, punchy, and extremely clear. The neck is very smooth and a joy to play. It's very close to the 70's P-bass I had and sold (big mistake) and is my main bass now. I have the triple sun-burst model and it looks lovely. I play through a classic 70's SVT and I think this bass and the SVT are a match made in "heaven". Fender's attention to detail with this bass are right on the mark. If you need a pro-quality rock bass you've found it!
