A modernized classic with all the right moves from Fender.

Fender's American Standard Jazz Bass scored a giant bass hit with its introduction in 1960. With its sleek offset body; thin, fast neck and rich, growling tone, it was a raring, roaring racecar of a bass that quickly established itself as a must-have instrument. The new American Standard Jazz Bass is an even finer instrument; a modern interpretation of a classic built for modern players.

Features include a high-mass vintage bridge, Fender Custom Shop ’60s Jazz Bass single-coil pickups, thinner finish undercoat that lets the body breathe and improves resonance, improved Fender tuners that are 30 percent lighter while keeping the classic look, richer and deeper neck tint for a more elegant appearance, great-looking gloss maple fingerboard, satin neck back for smooth playability and Fender Tolex case.

Fender American Standard Jazz Bass with Maple Fingerboard Features:

  • Jazz Bass body
    Modern C-shape maple neck
Maple fingerboard with 20 medium jumbo frets
    Standard 4-bolt neck plate
    Posiflex graphite neck support rods
Fender Custom Shop ’60s Jazz Bass single-coil pickups
    Chrome hardware
High Mass Vintage bridge (Strings-Thru-Body or Topload)
    Includes Fender Tolex

  • Awesome bass

As reviewed by Doug Butrum on 8/27/2012

I've had this for a little over a year and I love it. I bought my first jazz bass in 1977. Still have it. This new one has a different sound than my 77, but the low end is defined and the highs are tight and clean. I would highly recommend the American Standard Jazz Bass. I'm very happy with mine.

  • The name says it all!!

As reviewed by randall mccamant on 11/22/2012

I have been playing Bass for almost 50yrs, thats right 50yrs. I am still playing in 2 bands and probably will till I drop. Now I have tried alot of Basses, I own Music Man Stingray Slo Special,Over the the yrs I keep thinking there has to be a better Bass out there, I've probably owned 4 or 5 Fender American Jazz Basses in the past, and got rid of them. Well here we are again, I just bought "another" 2012 American Jazz Bass about 3 weeks ago, my MM Stingray hasn't seen the light of day since. I play through either Ampeg PB800 Head(MIA) and Pro Neo 410 cab and a Pro Neo 115 cab, or Markbass tube h and a markbass 210 Traveler w/ the 410 cab. I have gotten more compliments for the sound of the 2012 Fender JB then 4 yrs with the MM Stingray. The sound is just there with the Fender, I can't describe it any better! Buy this Bass, (before it goes up in price) Mine is the 3 tone Sunburst with a Maple neck. Don't believe me? go try one, you'll buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Couldn't Be Happier

As reviewed by ROSS on 6/11/2014

I've owned two Fender American Jazz basses in the past 15 years, and this is the best one yet. While they've always been comfortable to play, the pickups were the weak link for me, but the new Custom Shop pickups sound really good. I use the bass exclusively for recording in a variety of pop and rock styles. The inherent buzz that occurs when one pickup is rolled off is not that bad, and by finding the right direction to aim the bass reduces it to a completely acceptable level. Plays great, came with a flawless setup, finish and looks are perfect. The current case is my favorite, too; much better than the plastic SKB cases, or the huge ATA case that came with my 2011 P-bass. I compared G&L, Lakland, Music Man, the Fender '62 and '74 reissues, and a bunch of others before deciding on this one. I prefer passive pickups, and the classic rock sound this bass nails best. When playing in the store, I thought I might replace the pickups with Lindy Fralins, as I did with my P-bass, but, as I say, I am not finding the need to do so. Having owned two Sadowskys, I can honestly say I prefer the passive sound of this bass, and only would consider a Custom Shop Fender over it.
