Updated electronics, vintage bridge, and a rugged alder body enhance one of the best Fender Jazz basses yet.

The 5-string Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V delivers the modern features that bassists demand in a sleek, familiar electric bass design. An updated preamp circuit brings deeply exhilarating active and passive tone. Powerful-yet-quiet N3 Noiseless pickups present more clean headroom, extended EQ range, and tighter low-end response. The tonal options are vast, thanks to the active/passive toggle switch and passive tone control. These amazing electronics effortlessly handle the low B string with impeccable tone and seismic power. The classic Jazz Bass block fretboard inlays and binding present the Fender American Deluxe V bass in a rightfully classy light.

The bass is crafted with an alder body, a hard wood that provides clear tone, and lasting sustain. The maple neck with modern C-shape, 5-bolt neck plate, compound radius fretboard, asymmetrical neck profile, and contoured heel offer fast action, silky- smooth playability, and make the American Deluxe Jazz Bass extremely easy to play all the way up the neck. The high-mass vintage Fender bass bridge offers compressed and focused bass tone with more mid range punch. It retains the Fender articulation and sparkle, combined with vintage-style saddles to maintain a classic vibe. The combination of a steel plate with brass saddles produces the best possible Fender bass sound.

Pairing up these pickups with the EQ and volume controls provides that notorious Fender Jazz Bass sound that has mystified some of the world's most prominent bassists for decades.

Other features include Stealth "B" string retainer, tinted neck, rolled fingerboard edges, highly detailed nut- and fretwork, genuine bone nut, flathead screws on battery compartment (for easy changes with a coin or pick), gloss polyurethane neck finish, and a gloss urethane body finish to dress the Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V 5-string in ultimate style and beauty. Includes case.

The bass is solid as a rock. I brought a 2008 deluxe jazz V and it had problems with the finish. Fender replaced it with the new jazz bass without a question. I have had the bass for 3 weeks and I love it. The difference is the craftmanship. The tapered neck is a better fit for my hands and the B string is better sounding. The passive tone nob and switch is very useful. I love the tones and the controls to shape them. I like the black inlay and the finish is perfect. This is one of the best bass I've owned and I have had many. Warwick, Music Man, P Bass, Jazz Basses, and Spector. Now I have to figure out how to get a four string now. Great Bass.

  • Close to perfect, but not quite

I was delighted to receive the bass last week. It was delivered on time and in perfect shape. The out of the box set up was not to my liking so I proceeded to make the necessary adjustments of string and pickup height. Here is where I encountered a serious problem. The neck pickup would completely short out (stop working) when adjusted. I was very disappointed as I thought this American made bass would be problem free, but in less than an hour after delivery I had found a major flaw. To the credit of Guitar Center online, when I called to inform them of the problem they offered to let me return the bass for a new one...excellent service! Unfortunately I will have to wait 2 months for the next shipment but let me say it will be worth it. I have used it on several gigs and the tone is Fender Jazz classic superb on steroids. Just one other note, I have read of grounding (electronic buzzing) problems with this instrument from other people and I encountered it myself at one venue I was performing at. It happened in both the active and passive modes. I will be listening closely for that potential problem in the future. I hope it is not an issue with the circuitry.

I've been playing bass for close to 20 years... Everything from rock to jazz to funk to latin. This bass is hands down, THE BOMB! The Classic Fender Jazz Bass sound and look has always been my thing... With this bass, Fender has really taken the jazz bass to the ultimate level. I LOVE THIS BASS.... I purchased the black model with maple fingerboard. It is stunningly beautiful. Right out of the box, I did not have to change a thing.... The bass is lightweight and the tone (whether in passive or active mode)is phenomenal... If you want an old school funk tone, a jazz tone, or a fat rock tone, you got it right here. The low B string sounded fantastic. No fret buzz at all. Can't emphasize enough, this bass is totally worth your money. By far the best bass I have ever played. This will be my go-to-bass for years to come. Much respect to Fender for really out doing themselves and creating such an incredible instrument.
