A faithful hand-wired recreation of the 1957 Champ amp.

The Fender Champ amp of the late 1950s is well known as the small-but-mighty tone machine that belongs in every serious guitarist's collection. The release of the '57 Champ adds this iconic, one-of-a-kind guitar amplifier to Fender's '57 Tweed Series.

This faithful hand-wired recreation of the 1957 Fender Champ amp is a terrific practice amp, and has been a prized possession of countless pro players for its great sounding, low-output, easy-to-record capabilities. It's well documented that this model has been used on recordings by Johnny Cash, Keith Richards, and Eric Clapton (it's the "Layla" amp). And with its rich tone and touch-sensitive response, this Fender amp is ready to make great music today.

Finally!!!

I always thought Fender should reissue this very model since it is such a classic amp.I once played a real one so I had a general idea of what this should sound like.As I expected, this reissue performs quite like a good tweed champ should....a nice warm clean tweed tone that starts to deliver a cool primitive distortion as you turn the volume up.Obviously this amp will appeal mainly to studio situations but it can be used for low volume gigs like old school blues where the drummer is playing softly. This is not a versatile amp, there is not even a tone knob but it does it's thing very well.In the hands of the right guitarist who has experience in knowing how to achieve different colors through their playing and guitar knobs and switches, this amp could actually be all that's needed.I don't know if it sounds exactly like a true 1957 champ would(in a side by side comparision)but I find it very close in my judgement. You need to consider that an original amp is now +50 years old and very broken in.The originals used carbon comp resistors with a certain wire type....I don't think this reissue uses exactly the same materials but overall,I think Fender did a great job on this amp.

Good amp but too expensive

This is based on the 5F1 tweed champ... it doesn't use quite the same signal caps and resistors but I wouldn't knock it for that. What I would say is that Fender want way too much for this amp. Go buy a kit for one of these for half the price. Even buying a custom built one (there is no secret to making these amps) would run you less. They did the same thing with the Tweed Deluxe (5E3) reissue which was discontinued... the price was outrageous. Why would anyone buy one when they could get the same thing or better but without the Fender badge for half the price?
