Fender 50Th Anniversary Jaguar Electric Guitar (H78830)
Availability:

Fender celebrates 50 years of the iconic Jaguar.

Fender's 50th Anniversary Jaguar guitar takes you back to 1962, when they introduced an unusual new guitar that paired the sleek Jazzmaster® body style and elaborate control layout with a shorter scale and smaller, brighter pickups with more output. The resulting Jaguar was the fourth and last of Fender’s original lineup of standard electric guitars. Perfectly matched to the early-’60s renaissance in design modernism, the Jaguar gradually acquired a fascinating pedigree quite unlike that of any other Fender guitar. A chromed-out, surf-rock staple of the 1960s, it found new life from the mid-1970s-on as a subversively offbeat alternative axe wielded by punk, post-punk, grunge and alt-indie guitar heroes and anti-heroes alike.

The U.S.-built 50th Anniversary Jaguar celebrates that vivid history and combines old and new into the finest of all Jaguar guitars. Highly distinctive features include the classic 24” scale length, a new one-degree neck-angle-pocket cut that improves pitch, a re-positioned tremolo plate that increases bridge break angle and sustain, and specially designed hot Jaguar single-coil neck and bridge pickups that deliver fatter tone and more output (once again framed by the model’s classic notched metal “claws”; a hum-reducing innovation only found on the Jaguar). Accessories include a deluxe brown case, strap, cable and a set of flatwound strings.

  • Fender 50th Anniversary Jaguar

As reviewed by STEVEN MILLIGAN on 5/31/2012

This is my second Fender Jaguar, my first is a 1965 black with tortoise shell pick-guard that I purchased in 1980. Always wanted a Fender with block inlays and this fits the bill, great action and improved electronics. It's got great action and improved electronics. I purchased the Candy Apple Red Rosewood Fingerboard. It plays better and sounds better than the 65. Won't part with either. I ordered it from the Guitar Center in West Palm Beach, FL., brand new in the box, never touched, included the strap, cord, strings, etc. Easy transaction and saved some money, very pleased with GC service.

  • Great Offset

    As reviewed by T K on 4/18/2012

Ok, first and foremost, for those of you who haven?t owned or played a Fender offset, there are a few quirks that need to be noted. These apply to the AVRI Jazzmasters and Jaguars, and, in this case, the 50th Anniversary Jaguar. The bridge: it rattles, it moves, and it?s overall just a temperamental piece of hardware. That said, if you spend some time with it, it is a good design and can be made to work. This guitar is no different. The one thing I?ve noticed is that, since Fender moved the tremolo closer (like the Classic Player), there is a bit more downward pressure on the bridge, and it helps a little. I?ve also noticed a little more sustain from my 50th Jag, though that could also be attributed to the the higher output pickups. The one thing that Fender didn?t do for some unknown reason is include the funky mute that is characteristic of Jaguars, however they did drill the body and pickguard to accommodate one should the buyer chose to add. The tremolo: It also makes noise, but again, basic maintenance can fix these problems. I had the bridge and the tremolo working just fine after I got the guitar home and restrung. Just like any other out of the box factory guitar, it?ll need to be set up to the player. Ok, those aside, the guitar is great. The finish is flawless (Burgundy Mist Metallic on mine), the neck is a nice, slightly chunky C shape (not to large), and the guitar is finished in lacquer (on the metallic finishes, the color coat itself isn?t nitrocellulose). The pickups are a dream. They?re higher output, but they still sound very much so like you?d expect them to. They sit tonally somewhere between a hot Strat pickup and traditional Jaguar pickups, and, on a good clean amp, they are very bell like and clear. All the switching is quiet and the switches and pots feel good and of high quality, and the chrome trim looks just outstanding. The binding and blocks look fantastic. They are clean, well cut and compliment the custom colors very well. The rosewood on my Jaguar is dark and clean, and looks great. It comes with the 60s style, G&G case (American made) in brown tolex with an orange/gold interior, the bar, flat wound strings (mine actually did come with them), paperwork and of course a vintage strap and cable (it?s the same accessory pack you get with a ?62 AVRI Jaguar). Final verdict: This thing is great. Though Fender only hand numbered a few (mine isn?t numbered), that should be of no matter to anyone looking to buy a Jaguar. The 9.5? radius, modern pickups, shifted tremolo, improved neck pitch, chunkier neck and the cosmetic details make it a great Jaguar. If you want a ?62, this isn?t it, but if you want a guitar that is it?s own beast, this is a great buy. I give it 5 stars because if you want a great Jaguar, this is one. If you want a Strat, buy a Strat. If you want vintage, buy vintage or a reissue, but don?t expect those things from this guitar.

  • 50th Anniversary Jaguar

As reviewed by ken REIMER on 3/16/2012

I got mine in lake placid blue and its a real beauty! I really like the bound fretboard and block inlays. The pickups are fat and hot and really give you the surf sound of the 60's. These are hand numbered on the back of the headstock under the finish. Worth the money in my opinion, will be a collectors guitar. It says a set of flat wound strings are included but mine didnt have them, guess the guy at Fender forgot. Bottom line, this is my first Jaguar and I love it!
