Clean and clear tone, adds a new sound to your tele. I think the 4th position sounds more like a humbucker than single coils - less high end than the neck pickup alone, but a more aggressive tone.
The diagrams are vague and misleading for an experienced luthier. Calling fender is no help- the man i talked to had no information as to wiring diagrams and didn't even have at his disposal the diagram that came with the switch to refer to. Once I figured it out and got it right, the funtionality of it is great and very useful for running the two pickups in series and well as parallel. Normal operation with both pu's (parallel) cuts both pickups to half volume to give an even volume compared to each individual pu position. Series give you full volume on both at same time, for fuller stronger signal. I like the end result but it was a pain in the arse
I recently installed Vintage Noiseless Pickups into my Telecaster and decided to install a 4 way switch at the same time. This modification allows you to select the bridge pickup, the neck pickup or 2 combinations of them (Series and Parallel) allowing for a variety of different tones.
