NEW REVIEW - AMAZING
I play blues/classic rock and this amp is exactly what I was looking for. I've been playing for about 3 years and I just got this amp and it does not in any way sound like a "beginner" amp. Great Fender sound, the overdrive channel is pretty good, but I suggest a pedal. Over all, I love this amp.

Decent clean, terrible distortion, okay overall
The Fender 25R, a member of the newer "Series II" incarnation of the Fender Frontman practice amps, is a solid state amp with a pretty standard set of features, including distortion, EQ, reverb, jacks for headphones and CD players. It is very solidly built, and can get quite loud for its size and power rating. Similarly priced amps by Crate and Peavey really don't provide much of a usable tone, in my opinion, and seem targeted toward what might be referred to as the younger, less experienced, and less nuanced players who want little more from a small practice amp than distortion, and lots of it, even if it does sounds like a damaged speaker cone. That said, the distortion on the Fender 25R is essentially useless and provides little more than a fuzzy carpet laid on top of the guitar's tone. Good for irony-laden "freak-outs" perhaps, but not much more. The clean is this amp's strong suit, and is often characterized as "shimmering," "pristine," and "that classic Fender clean." It's okay, but in truth it's none of those things, and is actually a little flat. The reverb, also one of Fender's strengths, is typical for amps of this price and is a bit, well, "springy." In my opinion, the sound of the Frontman 25R does not compare favorably to the Vox Pathfinder 15R, the Roland Cube amps, or to any of the little digital amps, like the Vox DA5 or the Roland Microcube, that have come out lately. The small analog Behringers such as the GM110 and GM108, which replicate the higher-priced Tech 21 Trademark amps, lack reverb, but in my opinion have a better sound and are just more "playable" than the 25R. I've seen a review elsewhere that said that Fender should just eliminate the distortion circuit in these amps and focus on improving the clean and the reverb, which is presumably why people buy these things in the first place. I agree. With the Frontman 25R, Fender has put together a nice - and nice-looking - solid state practice amp and has improved immensely on the older Frontman series. However, while the newer Frontman amps have improved to the point that they now sound more like the older analog "Dyna-Touch" amps, there are better options out there for the money.

Awesome Practice Amp!!
I bought this amp about a Month ago and I have to say this is one of the best practice amps Ive ever owned, I use this one frequently to practice at home as it is more portable and Light Weight. Not Recommended for group practice though, sounds a little muddy at higher volumes, not to mention she gets "drowned out" by more powerful amps.

Fender 25R Frontman
I just purchased this amp the about 5 days ago and am very pleased with the tone and sound it provides. For its size, it plays very clean at higher volumes. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a practice/jamming amp that sounds decent. For the price, I don't know if you could do much better.

WOW..Just Plain WOW!!!
Just got this amp and I am blown away. For a little 25 watter, she just screams. The amp has a fabulous clean tone and nice reverb. The OD is surprisingly good. Its very quiet for a solid state amp. The stock speaker holds up well to distortion pedals. You can get a very nice hard rock/metal tone if you want. I plan to put an eminence ragin cajun in to give the amp some more oomph. For the price.. you just cant beat it. I tried to get into to the tube amp thing and was not happy with the results. You gotta spend 700-grand to get a quality amp. The lower end tube amps sacrafice alot of quality just to get the tube technology. For basement jammers, this is it. Its versatile and simple. And with the head phone jack, it lets you practise/rock/shred and not wake momma or the little one. Just a great amp for the price.. thanks Fender!!!!

An Awsome Amp
I got this amp about a week ago. I was comparing it with the 15 watt model and to me it seemed twice as loud. I usually play on volume 2 since it's so loud. It seems that the louder it is the more distortion you get. It may seem small, but it sure does pack a punch.

Fine amp for small gigs.
I use this amp with an Ibanez semi-hollow and it sounds great. Turning down guitar volume cleans up the drive channel - I use drive on 10 for screaming sustain, on 5 for blues and country and on 1 as a "clean". The secret is - turn down the guitar volume to avoid overloading the pre-amp.

Best $99 Bucks I ever Spent!
I picked up one of these a few weeks ago after noticing that Fender had lowered the price from $139.00 to $99.99. I have a Crate GTD120 at home and at 120 watts, that is a little bit too loud for home use and I needed something that I could use without upsetting my neighbors ,along with my wife. When I got this home, I immediately plugged my Strat into it and was rewarded with that classic Fender clean tone with it's sparkly highs and reverb. I was right away blowing off some country and blues riffs which sounded so sweet. Next I gave the Distorion channel a shot and IMO, it's not as bad as some people would have you think. I find the distortion on this amp to be great for Blues or classic rock. I was able to pull off some Led Zeppelin riffs with ease and still had some room for some Deep Purple leads. I must add, for a 25 watt combo, this baby is LOUD! I'm sure that I could use this at a small bar gig with ease. I did order a small Fender single button footswitch to use with this amp because as far as I'm concerned, this is a great little amp for practicing and for a beginner, and for the price you can't go wrong!

Unbelievable Amp for the money!!
I have owned this amp for a year and I'll tell you, I'm impressed! Great for blues, rock, clean tones...you name it! I used it at home as a practice amp for awhile then started jamming with it with my band, and that's was really surprised me. This little monster can keep up with guitars, drums & bass..and my vocals! If you PA the amp you could pull off a small gig. Great sounds from this baby! The gain is great for crunch and thick leads, as well as the bass, treble, reverb, middle..all add to the classic fender sound. Believe me, this is one great amp!
