Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo Amp (480727)
Availability:

The perfect amp for steel guitarists, jazz players, surf music, country, Western swing, and anyone else who wants clear, clean guitar tone at its best.

The clean sounds of the Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo Amp are loud, clear and strong. This custom version of the '65 Twin Reverb utilizes the 85W chassis of the original, coupled with a slightly modified cabinet and a single 15" speaker instead of the standard pair of 12s. The speaker is based on the JBL D130F used by Fender in the '60s and '70s. Its cast frame, shallow cone, and large voice coil deliver the clean, precise tone characteristic of the Twin but with a fatter bottom end and smooth treble. It also has higher power handling. Black, heavy-duty textured vinyl covering, silver grille cloth, nickel hardware, and a metal badge identifying the model. 2-button footswitch, removable casters, and an embroidered cover are included.

Guitarists interested in the Texas blues sound should check out the Fender '64 Vibroverb Custom (product# 483710).

  • A SUPER CLEAN AMP

As reviewed by wicktana on 8/8/2006

I wanted a tube amp but really wasn't sure what I needed. After having a Fender Princeton and having a Fender amp back in the 60's I knew that they were made well. All it took was for me to plug the guitar into this amp and I was sold. I liked the one 15" speaker over the two 12"s because it gave you more bottom. The reverb on this is amazing and is so bright and clear. I don't recommend this amp to metal players, but to those who play blues, jaz, classic rock, country, this is the best amp I know of. It is loud, can be played clean with no reverb at all. I can't say enough about how well this amp is built and sounds.

  • My Favorite Amp

As reviewed by Jeremy on 7/24/2010

I wanted one for a long time. My first experience was the incredibly deep bottom end and a great clean sound. All I can say is this amp has soul. Deep, rich soul and a phenominal sound. I love this amp. Not all pedals are great with it, but I have several amps for other tasks.

  • SRV Tone

As reviewed by Michael Coffin on 6/1/2011

If you've been searching for an amp for your Strat that delivers SRV tone, your search is over. I took a bone stock 65 Twin Custom 15, pulled the V1 tube (an SRV trick that gives the Vibrato channel more juice), installed Tung-Sol 12AX7 tubes in V2 and V4, and left V3, V5 and V6 stock. I plugged in a stock Strat with vintage spec single coils and suddenly had Stevie tone all in my face. This amp bleeds Texas Swing with this pre-amp valve set. The 15" speaker makes a difference in bottom end, and sounds much better than the 2x12 configuration, in my opinion. For a less aggressive and more compressed sound, try a JJ 12AX7 in V2, which is what I use when playing a Tele through this amp. The reverb on the Twin is too splashy for me, so I installed a 1M pot in place of resistor R24 as a dwell control. (pot mounted on back panel, to the right of the speaker jacks) This allows me to tone down the wetness of the reverb signal, and does not add any noise to the circuit. Any competent amp repair shop can do this for you. This is one of the best factory amps you can get for blues, swing and jazz styles. I hope this review helps.
