a tone time warp

Wouldn't it be cool if you could travel in time back to 1962, buy a brand new Jazzmaster and bring it back to 2006? That's the vibe you get when you jack into the '62 Jazzmaster reissue. The Jazzmaster was created as an attempt to capture market share from the Gibson dominated jazz guitar market, but it was not to be. The Jazzmaster was soon to find it's home in the newly emerging surf guitar scene. The Ventures and Beach Boys being prominent users. The Jazzmaster went on to inspire players in the 70's such as Neil Young, Tom Verlaine and Elvis Costello. In the 80's The Cure and Sonic Youth could be seen wielding Jazzmasters. The 90's found My Bloody Valentine, PJ Harvey and hordes of Indie rockers spanking the Jazzmaster as thier plank of choice. Fender has gone to great lengths to get this reissue right. Cake pan style body shielding, wide pickup windings, and nitro lacquer are a few of the vintage correct touches that set these models apart from the Japanese built reissues of the past. I find the USA reissue sounds and feels every bit as good as my original '64 Jazzmaster. It's short sustain is superb for staccato style picking. It's big woody neck pickup makes for the best rhythm guitar tones in Fender's arsenal. The pillowy vibrato is much more comfortable and forgiving than a stratocaster and returns to pitch better than anything short of a floyd rose. Fender has done a great job on this reissue. It is a custom shop quality guitar at an off the shelf price. Great value with a solid resale return. Any decent electric guitar collection should include a Jazzmaster and with the price of vintage models going through the roof the reissue is a great alternative.

Great guitar at a great price!

If you want a vintage Jazzmaster but don?t want to spend a small fortune this is the guitar for you. The 62 Jazzmaster RI offers the same vibe and feel as the original, but at a price that is much more friendly on your pocket book. When played through a Deluxe Reverb with the reverb turned to 7 this guitar has that unmistakable surf sound of the 60's, and when you crank up the volume this thing can really growl. The Jazzmaster sounds like a Strat with more bite but with slightly less twang then a Tele one the bridge pickup (think early Elvis Costello), and the bridge pickup has a fuller and clearer than a Strat but more lively than a P-90. The fit and feel of the 62 Jazzmaster are top-notch. The maple neck is sleek and fast, and allows for easy access to all the frets. The finish on mine is fantastic with no visible flaws or imperfections. Frets are neatly dressed with no sharp edges and the action is low and fast. The 62 RI plays just as good as any of the originals that I have been lucky enough to play, and it costs a fraction of the price. So if you are looking for something other then the standard Strat or Tele, the 62 Jazzmaster RI is a great guitar at a great price.

Jazz? Try indie rock!

The jazzmaster had become a staple in indie rock. Is it the unique pickups? The bridge? The tone? Well, it's all of that. In neck position this guitar sounds LUSH. There's nothing like it in the electric OR acoustic world. Sometimes there's guitars that are famous for a reason. This is one of them. Nothing sounds like it. The bridge position is clinky and twangy, and I mean that in the GREATEST way possible. Think of Sonic Youth, Dinosaur JR, all those indie bands you love. It is this guitar. These unique pickups. The "imperfect" bridge which makes the guitar all the more characteristic and lovely to play. Strike below the bridge and it chimes, hit the strings hard for that wonderful clank and ambience. It may have it's problems, but we LOVE IT!

Jazzmaster Review

This a precise replica of the original '62. Remember you are buying a "reissue"... Exact sound, quality, and feel. It also means it has the same exact flaws - detunes because of bridge and floating tremolo, same old tuners- not the deluxe modern machine heads you find on modern Fenders in this price range, and the Fender logo sticker on the headstock that can eventually peel off... If you are getting this as a player's piece, you will need to make modifications; the pickups are classic fender but have their own unique twang; the finish is beautiful.
