  • Definitely Unique

As reviewed by Michael Warden on 9/20/2011

My other main guitar is an American Strat, so that's my basis for comparison. Where the Strat is versatile for how it produces the tones a guitar should, this guitar is versatile in that the pickups give you extremely different tones. I prefer playing the neck pickup with the rhythm circuit off, but whereas I feel like the 5 positions on the Strat produce nearly identical tones, all three positions on the Jazzmaster produce radically different sounds. Basically, I love this guitar because it's a complete change of pace of tone compared to the Strat, even if on first listen most people would prefer the sort of generic (maybe familiar is a better word) tones of the Strat. The one thing that I think is inarguable is the tremolo system on the Jazzmaster is the easiest to operate on any guitar I've ever picked up. Also, unlike one of the reviews, I thought it came set up rather well.

  • '62 Reissue Fender Jazzmaster

As reviewed by Walter Oltmanns on 9/12/2011

This is a fantastic guitar! To play any style of music, IMO all you need is an American Jazzmaster and an American Strat! If you want to do "dive bombs" then you'll need something with a Floyd Rose, however. The vibrato (tremolo) never knocks the guitar out of tune. It is a definite improvement over the Strat's system. The tone of the pickups is outstanding, somewhat between a Gretsch Dynasonic and a Gibson P90. I have no idea why this guitar isn't more popular!
