This gorgeous all-tube combo amp is completely hand-wired using premium components.

This unit effectively reproduces the 1955-1957 edition's low-powered 5E8A circuit, which produces 40W into a pair of 12" Alnico-magnet speakers. Its harmonically rich, clean tones are great for authentic rock, blues, and country playing; when cranked up, the Twin-Amp's fat, sophisticated distortion tone works wonderfully in many modern musical situations.

The '57 Twin-Amp gets its power from a pair of USA-made GT6L6-GE output tubes. The power supply includes Fender's rarely seen '50s dual rectifier arrangement, which uses two - 5U4 rectifier tubes. With this design, power amp compression, or sag, is more subtle than it is in many Fender Tweed designs. The preamp contains four high-gain 12AX7 tubes, three of which may be substituted with 12AY7s for the original '50s low-gain sound, if desired. There's also an internal bias pot that allows easy substitution of various 6L6 tube types.

Control panel details include: Normal and Bright volumes, 4 Inputs (2 Normal, 2 Bright), Treble, Bass, and Presence knobs.

The '57 Twin's finger-joined solid pine cabinet resonates with a warm, woody tone. The amp is covered in genuine lacquered tweed, and a vintage brown/gold grille cloth and leather strap handle complete a very vintage package. Fitted cover is included.

Boutique Tone @ a Respectable Price

Power, punch, presence, headroom... this 40 watt amp is bigger than just about any combo amp in its class. I had always had problems finding an amp to fatten up mids and also punch out highs on a Strat. In that regard, the amp delivers. Unlike some of the Twins Reverbs & everything after that late 50's time period, the '57 Twin has a certain shimmer, glassy clarity and somewhat commanding tone characteristic that really unmasks the beauty and allure of the electric guitar... especially the Strat. If you put this amp together with a decent quality Strat, I believe you will never really want to consider anything else ever again. Although the amp has no vibrato or reverb the overall tone, power and clarity of the amp clearly makes up for it. As a live rig... amazing! This amp destroyed my idea that 40 watts was not enough power to do an outside gig... boy I was wrong. The 40 watts of '57 Twin is not to be compared with even 80+ watts of solid state amplification. The controls are simple and easy to dial and despite its inability to crossfeed channels like a Bassman, a 1->2 splitter box plugged into both Normal & Bright channels, simultaneously, can help to harness a punchier response plus more tonal variability. Whether in the studio or on stage this amp provide boutique tone and quality without paying the $3500-$5000 price tag... watt for watt this really is a great value for its class and contruction. I love it.
