  • No longer skeptical about Fender Mexico

As reviewed by R. White on 10/4/2009

When I unexpectedly found myself on the market for a reliable 4 string (as a backup to my Modulus Q5), I came accross a honey-blonde classic 50's. The quality of the Mexican instruments has improved dramatically and is nearly on-par with Fender USA. This instrument sounds excellent and puts out a warm, round, vintage tone that is highly-usable. The neck plays so well I can hardly put it down. I have been a bass player for 22 years and have owned over 60 basses. If you are looking to spend less than a grand, you really cannot go wrong with this bass. Whether you slap it, play with a pick or fingerstyle, you will enjoy it. The neck is a bit chunky (c-shape) so make sure your hands fit. It may be a one-trick-pony, but it's a good trick. It is responsive to playing styles and puts out good fundamental tones.

  • The King of all basses. Fender is simply the best!!!

As reviewed by Mike Campbell on 2/6/2008

I have been playing the bass for almost seventeen years now. I had spent quite a good deal of time looking at this bass before I bought it. I wanted something with a maple fingerboard that could thump. When the bass came the action was a bit higher than I liked. I worked with the truss rod and its perfect. It feels so good and can definitely rock the house. It is a bit heavy, but it is well balanced so it doesn't take nose dives on you. You can use this bass for every style it grooves well and you can slap and pop. It's a great playing bass that won't let you down. I love the vintage look and feel. Grab one, its a great bass at a good buy. You won't be disapointed.

  • GREAT bass !

As reviewed by YBF on 1/27/2011

This is just a great bass. If you're thinking of buying one, I'd strongly recommend it - I think you'll be pleased with your purchase. You might as well jump on it, as the price goes up every year; it won't get any cheaper. Even if you hate the bass, you could almost certainly sell it immediately. I've had mine for about a month. I have absolutely no complaints - even the factory setup was pretty good. I LOVE the 7.25" radius and the wide string spacing. Consider this: it's not ALWAYS easier to play a skinny-necked bass. If you try one of these out, you'll see what I mean. It plays like a bass, not a guitar. The sound is incredible - there's no need to replace the pickup or bridge. The tone control works extremely well on this bass. The range of tone goes from seriously deep and thick with the tone rolled off to as twangy as you'd want it to be with the tone wide open. And the middle-of-the-road P-bass tone is there in spades, too. It's a Precision - you can play almost anything with it. The first day I had it, I had to use it on a jazz gig in a pinch instead of my acoustic bass - it was the most fun I ever had playing jazz on an electric bass, and I have a fretless that I've used many times before. This is a very simple, very rugged, very nice playing and sounding bass. It's worth the money. Pick up two and string one with flats and one with rounds if you can afford it - you won't be disappointed.
