Overview

Accurate monitoring is a crucial feature in any studio environment, and a good pair of reference headphones is a must. Spirit Professional headphones have been specifically designed to meet the expectations and requirements of Recording Studios, Home Studios and Broadcasting Studios, and extreme care and detail went into the creation of the Mylar - Titanium alloy transducer, which combines rigidity, lightness and high damping properties to preserve the dynamics of the audio signal and to provide remarkably neutral sound without any distortion. The highly accurate reproduction of bass frequencies will reveal the smallest defects in the mix, while avoiding acoustic constraints of the workspace. Spirit Professional offers excellent acoustic insulation to address the constraints of the often-noisy environments specific to Broadcasting and Home Studios.

Spirit Professional headphones were created to be as comfortable as possible for long, extended use by using large memory-foam ear cushions which surround the whole ear as well as spread and minimize the amount of pressure felt by the user. The textured black finish is highly shock- and scratch-resistant, a necessary quality considering how often they will be used.

Comments about FOCAL Spirit Professional Headphones:

As the title states, these cans sounds stellar. Not necessarily flat, but darn close. But, be very weary of the build quality. My first pair broke within 5 minutes (headband area). Got the replacement pair and have baby'd these things. Still, I heard a big "crack" when I pulled them open to fit on my head. They seem to be staying together, but I am very skeptical they will last. Very sad as they are excellent cans. DON"T PURCHASE THESE WITHOUT A REPLACEMENT WARRANTY. You will be sorry.

Comments about FOCAL Spirit Professional Headphones:

I used these primarily for mixing and listening to music. The earpads are on the smaller side and rest on my ears but to me they are still very comfortable. Great memory foam earpads. Excellent sound isolation. They sound reasonably neutral while still being lively and fun.

These are really great headphones and I actually don't think the price is bad for the sound that you get. Also for me the isolation was important and I've yet to find better than these. The downside is that the headband on mine started to crack and break after about 7 months. If you start looking around on the internet you'll find that this is a very common problem. I was lucky enough to get my money back from the retailer. Maybe if you have a small head you wont encounter the cracking but I'd guess for most people these will eventually break. So you take a big risk buying these.

Come on Focal these cans are great, please redesign the headband!!

Comments about FOCAL Spirit Professional Headphones:

Due to a manufacturer defect the headband on these WILL snap on you at some point. Mine broke after 5 months and Focal refuses to replace them. Search GS for the thread "Still digging your focal spirit headphones" and you'll see this is a RECURRING ISSUE Due to manufacturer defect. BUYER BEWARE.

Comments about FOCAL Spirit Professional Headphones:

These are both the flattest (besides Sennheiser HD600, NOT 650 which are awful compared to 600) response headphones I've heard so far. I say that in terms of "can I mix on them?" I've tried Beyerdynamics, Audio Technica M50 and M50x (best thing for their price), Sony 7506 (useful in some sense but certainly nowhere near flat), AKG k240, and have auditioned a lot of hifi headphones as well (grados, audeze even, etc).... They are also the highest isolation I've found besides Extreme Iso EX29 (which is a great tracking HP too, though I couldn't mix on them).

The presentation is "concise". Mixing errors in phase or overall bass quantity are readily obvious if you A/B your work against some commercial releases. They are neither airy / spitty (except a hair crunchy on certain hihats - only certain hats, the HD600 handles that frequency more smoothly), nor are they bloated in the bass. They're pretty flat. And not flat like a headphone "flat" like Grados (which sounds incredibly airy / treble-tilted to me), but flat like a flat pair of studio monitors.

NOTE - the coil cable sounds better than the "portable" cable (likely due to the mic in line)

Only cons is I wish they folded up and I also hope the cable insert stays tight over the years (wish it locked). They do squeeze a bit on the head, which is probably necessary for the crazy level of isolation BUT they also have very deep ear pads so I've found them more comfy than M50s for long hours (M50s my outer ear would get sore from getting pushed in from the speaker because the pads aren't thick enough)
