A modern Tele with a pine body that's packed with a full array of pickups.

The Modern Player Telecaster Plus HSS is that rare bird among Telecasters-a triple-pickup model with a mini-toggle coil-split switch for the Modern Player humbucking bridge pickup. That's a lot of electronics and variety of tone packed into one guitar that's already know for being able to cover a lot of musical ground. This unique model is further distinguished by a pine body whose grain offers a warm look and feel.

Other features include C-shaped maple neck, maple fretboard with 9.5" radius and 22 jumbo frets, Modern Player single-coil Telecaster neck pickup and Modern Player Stratocaster middle pickup, five-way pickup switching, three-ply pickguard, knurled "chrome-dome" control knobs, vintage-style Stratocaster string-through-body six-saddle hard-tail bridge, vintage-style tuners and nickel/chrome hardware.

Case sold separately.

  • Least Expensive Guitar I own

As reviewed by Ronald Carignan on 3/21/2012

I have all American made higher end guitars and many of them. I have been playing guitar for 40 years through many styles and playing levels. I say all that just to qualify my review. I initially bought this guitar because I wanted a playable inexpensive guitar to try different pickups on. However I really like this guitar. It is Chinese and that's a little embarrassing for an old guitar dog, but I'll get over it in this case. This guitar surprised me. the neck is nice and straight, the frets are crowned and finished, no sharp edges. The setup is reasonably good although I'll dial the setup into my playing style. the color looks nothing like the online pic's. it is almost black only showing the dark brown wood grain when looking close under light. Playability is very good right out of the box. I like all the pickups setup and sound. the coil tap produces a very thin sound when switched on and IMO is the only tone the guitar makes that for me is not useable. over all for me this was an A+ purchase. If you like having double coils and single coils on the same guitar, this guitar does that much better than the price indicates. unless you are an American made guitar snob, you really can't go wrong with this guitar.

  • Versatile, inexpensive, and fun!

As reviewed by Gregory Anderson on 11/30/2011

I have wanted a Tele for a very long time but life just kept getting in the way of saving enough to buy one. When I read that Fender was coming out with this guitar I thought I would have to check it out. I've only had it 3 days and outside of my 30 some year old Yamaha SHB400 it is my favorite guitar already! With the 3 pickups and split coil bucker in the bridge you can get traditional Tele tones, Strat tones, and LP tones with one guitar. Seriously, this is one versatile guitar. Fit and finish is just wonderful, say what you want about Chinese guitars, this one is definitely a keeper. I thought I would immediately replace the tuning mechanisms with Fender locking tuners, but the originals are pretty nice, stays in tune quite well even with some heavy duty string bending. I will replace the pots with CTS versions, and might replace the single coil pups with Fender Noiseless, and perhaps a Seymour Duncan SH-11 in the bridge, but in the meantime the pups are good enough. If you didn't look at the back of the neck to see the label stating made in China, you would be hard pressed to tell this one from a much more expensive model. Thanks Fender, you made a winner!!!

  • Really nice guitar

As reviewed by Herbert Hartley on 12/6/2011

I ordered this Tele and it arrived today. I unpacked it... very well packed for shipping. I plugged it up after tuning and played for a while. The guitar has a nice playing neck. The 3 PU's all have that classic Fender sound. The dual coil and split switch really has a nice sound in both positions. The Tele & Strat PU both sound good. The finish is absolutely gorgeous. I have the Honey Maple finish. I was a bit concerned since I never bought a guitar before that I had not played in a store. No one had this guitar in stock. Based on the price and the features, I decided to take the chance and have no regrets about buying it sight and sound unseen. I have been a Gibson SG player and wanted to get a decent but not necessarily top line Fender. I believe I have made a good choice and have a solid working Fender.
