Yeah, a review on a drum key. If you can beleive it, this tool is very useful. Although it does not replace using your ears and tuning your drums (dont think you can get settings from someone and use them for your drums), they do help once you have already found your ideal sound. Tune your drums to your liking, check what settings the dial is at, write them down. Next time you change heads/tune up, get your settings out. Great for gigging drummmers that might need to tune up quickly.

I?ve got one of these and I have used it on a number of different shells. Problem with these mini torque keys (all of them, in my opinion) is that they simply cannot account for any of your drum's rod/lug combinations that bind even a tiny bit. Of course the older a shell is, the more likely it is that one or more rods/lugs on it will put up some extra resistance. The same problem exists when you torque down head bolts on automobiles ? if you don?t thoroughly clean the threads and remove oil and any crud from the bolt hole, you won?t get accurate, consistent torque. With drums, you are working within much smaller hardware venues. And yes, you can clean each lug?s swivel nut threads, and clean the tensions rod, and grease them. But there will still exist slight inconsistencies and stresses that make one or more rods not respond identically to one of these torque keys. That truth makes this tool something you may well find yourself tossing into that small box of extra drum odds and ends and parts, rarely again to think about.

Totally useful

By a9712353

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

I saw the rhythmtech key, and I use that key one time, but when I saw the evans key, it looked less complicated. I bought the evans key, it really really worked. Tunning was so easy, fast and accurate from the first time that I use it.

Great for a new drummer

By redbarnrez1

from Broken Arrow, Ok

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

I used I last night to assemble my PDP EZ kit. The knurled knob made short work of finger tightening the lugs, and the wide grip made evenly torquing the drum heads a breeze. I recommend it for anyone getting a new kit.

Tune Your Drums the Right Way

By Joey Kronik

from Buffalo,NY

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

Long Story Short, buying this Drum Key and Brand NEW heads will make ANY drum set sound amazing. There is a little dial that you turn on the drum key that goes from 0-9 and it basically goes around 3 times, up to 30. So depending upon how you like your sound (I tune the top of my snare to 26, bottom to 20, and my toms (top and bottom) both to 13, but that's just my preference, you get the idea.) This key is the perfect Christmas gift for any drummer

Great

By Trey

from Norfolk, VA

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

I couldn't ever get the tune on my toms to sound right untill i bought this. I was looking around on the internet earlier today and when i saw this i ran out and bought it right away and it made tuning my toms super easy. It only took 20 minutes and they sound better than they ever have. This is great for anyone who needs a better tune on their drums.

Great buy, you definitely won't regret it!

By Brian

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

This thing is great! First off, no drum tuning key is going to be 100% accurate but this key gets you as close as possible and without you having to do a lot of ear tuning. It makes the task of tuning 10 times easier and a lot less stressful. Definitely a great buy for anyone. I was going to purchase the drumdial but this thing was half the price and when you really think about it, this thing has way more features and much more valuable. with either the drumdial or torque key, youre going to want to do a little bit of your own tuning, so why pay twice as much? whether youre a beginner who just wants to tune their drums easier, or a pro who could use a little tool to make tuning quicker this thing is awesome! And let me be the first to mention on these reviews that the magnetic bit inside the key is such a great overseen feature! you dont ever have to worry about dropping your key. I'm sure im not the only one whos dropped their key while sitting behind the kit tuning their drums, and then having to search for it on the ground or in the grooves of your pedal. AHH what a pain that was!

OK, not great. Not a tune cure.

Much better options out there than this!

By T.ROE

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

This is not a very reliable tool. Every time you tighten a lug and it clicks, by the time you get to the last of them, the dial setting has changed! Its just a very cheaply made, unreliable product. Now it's just another drum key, that i paid too much for! Spend the extra $$ to get a drum dial!

    By Mike B

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

The back of it doesn't really explain how to use it, but it only took me a little while to figure it out. I'll definitely keep my heads in good shape with this thing. Well worth the cost.

    Not bad......

    By Josh L.

    from Thompsons Station, TN

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

Tried it with my bell brass snare and it worked good. The lugs were pretty much in tune with each other, but there was still quite a bit of pitch difference between them. I'm still trying to see if this or the Drum Dial is better. It is good for getting your heads around the range they need to be at. I would recommend it for quick tuning when your giggin' and that's about it.

    Perfect for Quick Gig Set-ups!

    By Brandi

    from Windsor, Ontario

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! Perfect for the beginner & profession alike! I got one of these for my boyfriend who is a professional drummer & drum teacher. He often times has shows to play with his band & since they are the head line act they go on stage last, there is very little tear-down & set-up time between each of the groups playing so it has to be quick. So we set up his drums he grabs his key & then sets it to the number he predetermined prior to the show & is able to have the drums sounding great and in tune in no time! (This also eliminates the need for him to strain to hear & stress over the drums sounding good!) I would tell anyone to buy this product, be they novice or professional, it has many benefits to it & is good heavy duty quality that lasts! (With novice drummers he is able to tell a student which number to place the key to for each drum allowing the child/adult to play on an in-tune set. For the pro its just a quick & easy way to make sure each lug is set at the exact same tension/torque [as long as you follow the correct tightening pattern]) The only problem being is he likes it so much he keeps getting more and more so he has one every where, one in each bag and one at each drum set! BUY THIS PRODUCT!!

    Good for certain drums

    By Timothy McGee

    from Grand Prairie, TX

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

This is a very great device. But i think it probably works best on NEW drumkits. The way it works is that it measures the tension of each lugs until they're in tune, but some older drumkits might have a rust problem that holds back some of the tension on the lugs, making it think you HAVE tuned it perfectly, but its not. This happened with my drumset. So if you have a good ear then I think you could consider it :)

    Time Saver

    By metalfan526

    from Bronx, NY

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

When i first bought my drum set, i had to tune the heads with a regular key and keep tapping the head till the head sounded equal all the way around. With this you set it to a number, turn, and your done. What a great invention!

    FAST, ACCURATE TOOL

    By T. Lidar

    from Yucaipa, CA

Comments about Evans Torque Drum Key:

After a couple of uses, this thing is pretty sweet. For fast head changes, can't be beat. It takes minutes to create a reference setting, dismount, mount new head and torque to original reference. I'm totally happy with the functionality, quality and price of this essential tool. Manufactured quality appears to be top notch. We'll see how it holds up after a few changes !!
