I have a Sound Percussion drum set which of course is not a top of the line drum set. It is actually a low class with terrible stock heads. I upgraded to these heads and it completely changed my outlook on my set. It pretty much showed that you dont have to buy an expensive set to have great sound, you just need the right heads and these are them

New drum head/reso combo experiment.

I was looking for a new combination of batters and resos, but the onyx was a bit too muffled even for my liking. Went with coated G2s over coated G1s instead.

Decent Head

By Joe C.

from Connersville, IN

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

I believe Evans was trying to compete with Remo's Black Suedes, but these don't even stack up. These fall out of tune easy and don't have a very satisfying tone. I've had every brand of head on my set and Evans always seems to dissapoint. I think it might be the crimp ring's flexibility.

BEAUTIFUL SOUND, GREAT FEEL

By Alex

from AZ

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

first of all, these heads look awesome but thats not the important part. These heads sound amazing! they really reduce unwanted overtones, they reduce slight ringing and eliminate some of the bad sound from not tuning correctly (sometimes we all get something wrong in the tuning dept) they are deeper/lower/darker sounding but that allows you to tune them tighter so you still get a good tone!!. they also feel GREAT! the rebound is amazing BECAUSE you can tune them tighter. this is what really makes these so great, they dont just sound better, they feel better. people that say they are too low just dont experiment with tuning these properly. a few more twists of your key and these babies sing. HIGHLY recommend these to anyone regardless of genre.

Smooth!

By Anthony

from Hernando, MS

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

I recently replaced my Remo Emperor heads with these. Wow! They made my drums come alive. They have a very nice tone and I love the texture as well. They almost feel like fabric and they are also easy to tune. They have an awesome appearance to boot! Can't say enough good things about these heads!

Why not?

By Joe

from Lincoln, Ne

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

I found that these heads had a quick sharp attack but also a short sustain. If you're playing anything hard these heads will give you that quick tone. But they will be a little muffled.

Boost up your kit by getting the Evans Onyx!

By ZildjianDrummer41

from Buffalo, New York

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

Now, if you think you have bad sounding drums, then you can change that. Get Evans Onyx drumheads. Not only do they have cool looks, but they deliver great tone and emotion. If you want to get your toms to sound high pitched, then make them that way. Now I don't have the best drums out there, so I knew I had to get new heads. At first, I got these because of the looks, but when I put these on and tuned them to the perfect pitch, I knew these were the best drum heads out there. I Highly Reccomend You Buy These Heads!!!

Does the Trick

By Dean Johnsrud

from Northlake, Il.

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

After 5 years of sound control issues, I finally got the sound contorl I needed with the ONIX line. I can keep the warmth and attack I want while having more control over ressonance and volume on my BIRCH kit. Although, it seems that 14 inch and up are a bit touchier but once you get it where you want it, IT'S GREAT! I've gotten nothing but compliments on ther sound of my kit.

Great Heads!

By Charles

from Rocky Mount, VA

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

I bought these heads as soon as I bought my Pearl VX927 kit. I had previous experience from a drumset I learned on during my first deployment. I can't imagine playing on anything else. They are amazing. It is no big secret that Pearl doesn't put good heads on their kits. These are well worth the money you will spend on them.

Durable w/ great tone, who woulda thought!!??

By Anthony Dominic

from Indianapolis., IN

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

I'm the hardest hitter in the business. No exaggeration. Tommy Lee got nothin on me. I've used every head under the sun. My favorite heads were Remo coated Ambassadors and coated Emperor. The best sounding heads...for one song... I would literally blow through these heads in one show or recording session. i had been looking for a head that gave the singing tone of these heads, but were a little more durable...and These Onyx heads deliver!!! Not quite as resonant as the emperor, but DEFINITELY more durable with not too much of a sacrifice! Plus, these really cosmetically trick out your kit! A must buy for hard hitters that require durability but don't want to sacrifice tone.

Intense Heads

By Steven Hudson

from Hot Springs, AR

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

I purchased these heads to replace remo pinstripe two ply heads on a Tama Mahogany set & I can't express how pleased I am with my choice. For a long time now I've been a remo patron but after hearing these evans heads I'm hooked. They have great attack, ring out with warm tones & sound great when recording. When used with evans ec2 reso heads I'm convinced you cannot beat the sound. Each tone between toms is pronounced & well defined. Of course their flat black coating makes my set stand out.

Nothing short of the being the best choice

By Matt Fontana

from Johnstown, PA

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

I put a 12" size on my Yamaha 5x12 snare matched with a Hazy 300 and was very satisfied with the sound that was produced. When I got a 5.5x13 Yamaha snare I knew that only the best, in my opinion, would do. I get a full bodied sound with this head and the Hazy 300 just like with the 5x12. Hopefully soon, I'll be able to get a Yamaha kit!

Comments about Evans Onyx 2-Ply Drum Head:

This is a new venture for me. I have 2 sets of drums and I want my small venue set to be a little different. Very easy to tune these heads in, nice response, looks good too. This is higher tonal value than I normally have , but I like it. It gives me a difference in sound and has a great response.
