Okay...Let's get started with the "battering." (No pun intended...Chuckle...Chuckle.) These heads were everything that I have ever dreamed of until I actually bought them. I put these heads on a couple of days ago and to my dismay...I have heard better tonal quality from a dead carp than from these heads. I am a big fan of Evans' products but these Hydraulics are a bit disappointing. The product reviews regarding Evans Blue Hydraulic heads were fairly convincing and favorable in relation to the sound I was attempting to achieve. However, the sound produced is dead, non-sustaining, and virtually inapplicable to any live setting that I will ever encounter. The good part is that I will transfer these heads to my studio kit and use EQ to get the desired recorded sound. In short, I would have to say that the live sound is dead and if you want that "warm" focused sound, go with the G2 Coated heads for the live stuff and use these Blue Hydraulics for the studio work.

Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:

If you're after a funky full natural sound these are the heads to use. The venues I use them in are horn band funk, jazz, and fusion. I've been using these heads since the 70's. I've tried many other styles of drum heads, still my favorite.

Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:

This is a first time for me using Evans hydraulic heads. I saw them around 35 years ago, and I shouldn't have waiting that long to try them. They make your lower toms sound like cannons. They do eliminate alot of the overtones, but I use some extra moongels on my 10 12 & 14 toms. I replaced all 9 of my drums with these. They sound great and look awesome. I also added a clear evans patch for my bass drum to help the head last longer from my double bass pedal. Don't wait as long as I did to try them!

      Durable, but sound horrifying.

      By Jeremy

Comments about Evans Hydraulic Blue Tom Batter:

I like Evans heads, don't get me wrong. But these are SO SO SO dead sounding... more dead sounding than Pinstripes. If you want every last bit of resonance taken out of your toms, these are the heads for you! You are left with this weird dead mid-range "tone" (if you want to call it that). I tried these heads on oak, maple, and composite (REMO) shells and they pretty much sounded equally disappointing on them all. Kind of like putting 10 pieces of Moon Gel on tom head. On a positive note, these are cool looking and really durable.

I have been playing for 48 years, have never come across a drum head like an Evans. I have an Evans head on my bass drum and on my 12" tom. What a sound quality it produces !! I need one now for my 13" tom to improve my sets sound. When my 16" goes, I will definetly get an Evans!
