Awesome Evans EQ3 Bass Drum Heads!

    By

Comments about Evans EQ3 Batter Clear Bass Head:

I use this head on 20, 22, and 24" bass drums, and I own many kits. It blows away other drum heads I've used in the past, especially for live playing situations. I use it on maple, birch, and combination wood basses, with great results. Incredible boom. Deep powerful tone, and with the removable ring installed (I never romove it), I get a sustain that lasts about one full second. High pitched overtones are eliminated. I use the bass drum staight, with no muffling or pillows, no felt strips across the head, nothing inside the drum. It's the chest thumping dream come true, but the secret is the resonant side head. I use an EQ1 type head on the reso side, and no holes! This reso head is a single ply with one tone control ring integrated into it. The combination is MAGIC. Anything other than this combo and you won't get the power. I use an EMAD head for recording because I need the extra muffling the foam ring provides for sustain control. Otherwise I get too much volume and too long of a sustain time, making recordings muddy. But live, the EQ3 is the BOSS! Use it on 22" and larger sizes with my recommended reso head and you won't believe your ears. (On my 20" basses the tone only gets so deep, but still better than any other head.) Just gotta tune the reso way down, almost loose, and the EQ3 batter not too tight. Just tune it tight enough to get good beater bounce, and you'll hear the magic.

    WHY?

    By

    from Ramstein Germany

Comments about Evans EQ3 Batter Clear Bass Head:

I bought 2 of these bad boys and a couple of retro screens... I figured that would give me the punch I was looking for. The retro screen sounded great with my remo powerstroke 3 (which I've had for about a year, with very little damage and no holes). So I slapped this on the batter side. Low and behold, about a week later, the first ply is shredded. Now I can't run 2 bass drums if I choose until I get new heads. I think 2 ply heads just don't do well under heavy hitting, as strage as it sounds.

    best ive used

    By

    from rochester, michigan

Comments about Evans EQ3 Batter Clear Bass Head:

Simply put, this is the best bass head Ive ever heard or used. I slapped it on my 22in birch kick, and tightened it just until there were no wrinkles in it. I instantly loved the sound. It gave the drum a deep thud with very little resonance and no overtones. definitely worth it.

    Great Versatile Kick Head

    By

    from KCMO

Comments about Evans EQ3 Batter Clear Bass Head:

Best all-around consistency in the studio, minimal work to get the fat tone. Live, it's one of the punchiest heads out there. I like the versatility of the head on both birch and maple kits, both of which I use in live and studio applications. If you have a thin shelled (5 ply or less) kick drum that gets a little choked by the heavier muffling of a Superkick II or EMAD, try the EQ3.

This head is very versatile for your bass drum. It has a great feel and can be tuned both very high and low, depending on what style music you play and what sound you want.
