The Emad Resonant head gives my drum a real punchy thump that I really love. The head decreased the amount of internal muffling needed because my old head didn't have a hole in it. Its sound is incredible and the interchangeable foam rings really change the sound of the head by taking out overtones. The firm ring increases attack and the softer ring gives the drum a round tone to it. I have heard cases that the ring would fall apart, but I haven't had that problem yet, only the little evans sign fell off. But overall, its one of the best resonant drum heads out there today.

If you e mail evans, they will send you replacement. but i got tired of doing that. the just kept breaking. But the head does sounds great.

Good Head

By VicFirthFan123

from Illinois

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

This bass drum head definately reduces a ring to your bass drum and will give a deeper sound to it. The nice thing about this head is the microphone hole, it makes it so much easier to mike the bass drum with it. After using this head i no longer needed a pillow stuffed in the bass drum. Overall great product.

Deep and punchy...if you tune them right.

By Jeremy

from Delaware, OH

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

Love these heads. I have not had any problems with the foam rings as others have... of course I don't keep taking them in and out. Find one you like and LEAVE IT IN! Make sure you tune them right and you will have a very deep punchy tone with good attack. I still used a pillow inside because the resinate head had too much sustain for my needs. I tuned them to what Bob Gatzen refers to as the "LPF - Lowest Possible Frequency" Search youtube for Bob Gatzen Bass Drum Tuning and you will find a video of him tuning a bass drum with EMAD heads! Follow this and your kick will sound killer.

Can you say BOOM?

By BOOM BOOM in BAMA

from Cordova, Alabama

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

I've been playing a great sounding set of Pearl's with a 22" bass since I bought them new in 1982. Over the years I've tried different heads and every type of dampening imaginable. I've been using foam and foam strips for years with good results. Last year I put E2's on the toms and a EMAD clear batter head on the bass and have been well pleased. Then, last month I added the EMAD Resonant head and, BOOM! I've never heard one head make such a difference in tone and depth, it's like a cannon going off. The guys in my band can't believe it either. No more pillows, mufflers, etc. necessary. If you can't get the sound you want out of the EMAD combo, something else is wrong. The Ebony head looks great too! I highly recommend them. And, yes, the EMAD emblem and felt cover came off the foam ring the first practice I used it; no big deal, it just couldn't survive the BOOM! Still has the EVANS logo.

Amazement

By James

from East Coast

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

Ive been playing drums since i was 10. I was messing around on the drum set at my school one day and I couldn't figure out why the bass drum was making such a amazing sound, so i asked my director. He said the sound came from the head. I went out that evening and purchased it. That was about 10 months ago. I will never use a diffrent bass head as long as i live.

EMAD Resonant

By Damen

from Fontana

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

No bass drum can sound good without the Resonant. I am picky when it comes to drum heads, of course I need the Resonants as long as I have the Batter heads. It's the only thing that can give me the sound that I need. I highly recommend the EMAD Resonant when you get the EMAD/EMAD 2 batter bass head.

Evans EMAD Rules !

By Ryen

from MO

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

I just got this head to rehead my Ddrum set. This thing is awesome. I know what head I will be using from now on. The EMAD batter head is a must as well. No pillow needed in the bass drum for that solid thump with no overtones. Just awesome !

Great Head!

By J. Cagle

from Frisco, TX

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

For years I've had an annoying high pitched ring in my bass drum. I considered stuffing a pillow in it, but instead I purchased this head along with a non-ported EMAD head for the playing side and not only is the annoying ring gone, but my bass sounds better than it ever has before! It has a much deeper, punchier sound --- a Lars Ulrich type sound, with just enough resonance to not sound muffled. I wish I could've had this head 15 years ago!

Amazing! best ever!

By James Harwell

from odessa,texas

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

this head is not the cheapest but by far the best!the finish provides a great look- but you get more than just the look you get an amazing sound as well. the 2 emad rings allow you only to need a small pillow or even just a shirt inside! this head would look good and make a drastic sound change to any drum set

Trading one thing for another.

By M.Piedmont

from Atlanta, Ga.

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

This is a great head - but always keep in mind that no matter what resonant head you go with for your bass drum - the farther you stray away from the basics - the more your just trading one thing for another. I've tried this head as well as many other heads for my bass drum resonant. Evans will always take the most modern approach to designing heads, that's just who they are - but sometimes what's deemed a more sophisticated design is just the same old wheel reinvented. Using a single-ply unported head has always been the most traditional way of applying a resonant head to a bass drum. If you stray from that, then it will cost you something. If you want more bass resonance - then it will cost you attack, if you want more attack - then it will cost you bass resonance. It's a simple matter of physics. Sometimes it just makes more sense to stick to the basics.

Punch Punch Punch!!

By Gavin Torres

from Socorro, Nm

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

I have an EMAD2 Clear Batter with the inside ring and the EMAD Resonant Head on my 20" Birch Bass Drum. This head combination is AMAZING!! My kick sounds like it is already mic'd and has amazing attack! Volume control is easily attainable and accented bass patterns actually cut through! I think Evans hit the nail on the head with this unique muffling system. It makes bass drums thump while still maintaining complete control! You can either spend time EQing your kick at gigs, or you can get these heads and get right to jamming!

Solid Sound and Construction

By CLARE THOMPSON

from Augusta, KS

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

I have 22" EMAD heads for the batter and resonant sides. After installing the resonant head, I was getting more tonal resonance than I prefer. The dampening material is built into the head's port and not installed into a sleeve like the batter head. However, once the drum was mic'd and the mixer channel settings were tweaked, the live sound was better than expected. We heard nice round tones with a crisp attack. During live performances, the extra resonance was not noticeable. Overall I'm very happy with these Evans heads. If you buy and install both EMADs, resist the urge for additional dampening.

excellent

By alan hunt

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

i've had this same exact reso head for literally over 3 years and there isn't any ductape holding it together. combined with the emad2 on batter, my ddrum 22x20 kick sounds killer. best sounding part of my kit and everyone is automatically blown away by it. i wouldn't recommend any other 2 heads for your kick besides the emad2 system. although the rings eventually did break off quite some time ago..i just have a simple towel in there and it's perfect.

HIGHLY worth it

By Daniel Mills

from woodbridge, va

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

I bought this today at a guitar center after reading a lot of good reviews on it and decided to go ahead and get it myself. Ever since i started playing the drums i never liked the way my bass drum sounded, EVER! It was flat and not very loud or punchy sounding. I had bought the Aquarius power stroke 2 batter head about 2 days before i bought this head and it sounded great ( probably very similar to the EMAD Batter head, had a muffling ring too). I put this head on today, and after very easy tuning, i started playing and it sounded amazing! I read one review where it said don't even worry about pillows and microphones and its completely true, at least for me anyways! I love the sound of it, very deep, loud, and has a nice thump, almost as if it really did have a microphone on the resonant hole. Highly recommend!

Perfect When Combined With EMAD Batter

By Austin

from Vicksburg, MI

Comments about Evans EMAD Resonant Bass Drum Head:

This drum head is perfect! This head has greatly reduced the amount of internal dampening (yes it still needs a little bit of internal dampening but not much). One thing I recommend though is that you tighten the head until ALL the wrinkles are gone, otherwise you get kind of an odd "fwop" sound whenever you hit the drum. Just make sure you put in a little bit of internal dampening and tighten it a bit. Sounds amazing though!
