I've had this for awhile now and it hasn't failed me yet. Everything is sturdy, and the sound is amazing. If you want somewhere between the booming thunder resonating kick of an empty bass drum, and the dull thud of a pillow stuffed one, I would highly recomend this head, espescially for double-bass playing.

Bought this head about 3 months ago with high expectations. Did not muffle my bass as much as I thought it would, but still if was a lot better that before. The real bummer was when the internal muffling ring began falling out, and now falls out more frequently no matter how tight I tuck it in. I am a moderate hitter. Guess I'll have to resort to some unsightly tape to keep it in place. It could have been engineered better to stay in place while playing.

Comments about Evans EMAD Coated Bass Drum Batter Head:

I have had this head for about a month and it just broke in. it has a nice deep sound if you tune it just right. the thickest muffle works best if you want a deep sound.

Be careful.

By Deejay

Comments about Evans EMAD Coated Bass Drum Batter Head:

I bought this about a year ago and when it was new I loved it. I thought I would no longer need a pillow. About a month or two in the plastic ring started to fail and the only way I could keep the foam ring in was to patch the plastic with duct tape. :( After that if worked fine for a while. I always use cases to tranport my drums but no matter what I do the plastic keeps deteriorating. I'd like to think that I just got a bad head but I'm leary of trying this product again. If you like the low punch of a good muffled bass drum I would suggest a pillow and a Remo powerstroke.

Great head

By Presley Daniel

Comments about Evans EMAD Coated Bass Drum Batter Head:

I've been using evans for over 7 years now. When I tried this head few years ago, i was skeptical about it. But I still wanted hear how it sounded. I take my drums to retreats and other church activities. I use a pdp by dw kit. I bought it and tuned it up, and it blew me away. I believe even now, that this drum head very reliable and very durable. I used one of these sometimes for over 9-10months. Never has disappointed me. I am sure there are a lot of other brands that sounds good too but when it comes to low punchy sound and durability, this head takes a huge leap overall. I would definitely recommend it. I do have to say that the plastic doesn't hold up over 4 months for me, but when does tear, I just use some tape and seal it up. Overall I give this 5 star rating because of the sound and durability character.

I bought this head about a year ago and its great. I used to muffle my bass drum with pillows and blankets but with this I get a great low punchy tone with no ringy overtones. Its really durable and i'm a hard hitter. highly recommended

I love this head.

By Jade Heraz

from Holtville, California

Comments about Evans EMAD Coated Bass Drum Batter Head:

I absolutely love this drum head. I have bought it twice already. It gives such a beefy sound. It gives just about any bass drum a really solid and punchy sound. I like my bass drum very muffled. I have the emad, and 2 pillows in my shell. It truly is the bass drum head you want to buy (:

EMAD provides control without loss of tone

By Jeffrey

Comments about Evans EMAD Coated Bass Drum Batter Head:

I switched from a stock DW bass drum batter head on my Design series kit (similar to Remo Powerstroke 3) to the EMAD to get a little more control without having to use a lot of muffling inside the drum. I play in a small room in my basement, and I think the EMAD will work out great. It has beautiful low end tone but still plenty of punch for my taste. It also records very well. I had seen a lot of positive reviews of this head and I can see why. Some people might shy away from it because the external dampening looks bad or not "pure", but let's face it, unless you are playing jazz you are going to take steps to muffle your kick drum, and Evans does the work for you in this case. I find that the thinner of the two removable rings is the right balance of control and tone.

So far so good !

By Ryen

Comments about Evans EMAD Coated Bass Drum Batter Head:

I just got this batter head. I hope I don't encounter the problem that one of the other reviewers has with the plastic ring coming off. I put this on my bass drum and it sounded perfect from the first kick. I really love the fact that I don't have to shove a pillow in the bass drum to get that solid thump. I guess if the plastic ring does come off then I could always go with the Aquarian Superkick, but so far I don't think that will be a problem.

great sound

Comments about Evans EMAD Coated Bass Drum Batter Head:

I had this head for over 2 years and just recently broke. thats using double bass, and being a very hard player. the plasic that holds the muffle ring in can break very quick but duct tape holds it in just fine and held the whole time i had it. other than that its one of the best heads i have ever used. has a very nice thump to it with little muffling inside, sounds very good with a mic also. i recommend this to any drum that likes a durable and thumping bass drum head.

So-So

By Greg

from Cleveland, OH

Comments about Evans EMAD Coated Bass Drum Batter Head:

I play in a pop rock cover band that gigs about 3-4 times a month. I've always put those little pads on the heads to add punch and durability in the past. Wasn't sure if they were really necessary. I bought this head and neglected to attach a pad. I broke through the first layer within 2 months. Still sounded good, but I would DEFINITELY advise to apply a pad for head life. I now have to go out and guy a new head. Not sure I'll invest the same amount. We'll see.
