The Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead offers an edge control ring mounted under 2 plies of 7-mil film. The EC2S coated drumheads control vibration instead of eliminating it. It also dampens higher overtones, enhances low-end attack, and supports a broader tuning range.

Evans EC2 Sound Shaping Technology (SST)
Evans improved EC2S drumheads contain Evans' exclusive Sound Shaping Technology (SST). Sound Shaping Technology allows the drumheads to be fully optimized for each individual size by varying the thickness and density of the damping material, ensuring greatly improved performance and tone across the entire kit. Unlike other heads that lack SST, Evans EC2Ss contain the ability to balance attack and tone for each size. The result is a drumhead series fine-tuned for attack, tone, length of sustain, and ease of tuning. Packed with a more balanced and pre-EQ'd sound across the full kit, the vans EC2S with SST will make your toms sound better than you ever thought possible.

Here is what the pros are saying:
"So I just gave the new EC2s a test run overseas. They sound great!! I used them on a Mapex Orion kit. The new muffling rings are nice! After pounding these for a few shows they stayed focused."
-Chris Pennie

"The new EC2s are so incredible! The attack and tone has somehow been magnified, when I'm playing these heads the feel, definition and tone that I'm able to draw out of them is amazing and is so sweet to the ear."
-Camille Grainer

"The new Evans EC2 SSTs are amazing. My toms sound so warm and lush. These drum heads bring out the true sound of the drums."
-Dean Butterworth

"The best just got better - the new EC2 SST drumheads are incredible!"
-Preston Heyman - The Wolfmen and U.K. Session Supremo

For years I've been around trying different heads looking to find "my" sound. I've been a REMO guy from most of my life but I finally decided to give EVANS a try. I seriously got to say that I made one switch and I'm never going back! I got these SST's about a week ago and I finally got that deep, resonant, warm, and quick sound I've always been looking for! They are very easy to tune and I could immediately tell the difference from the Pinstripes I had on my set. No need for any muffling or anything the muffling ring on the head suprisingly works great. For me, best heads so far... :)

I've had these heads on my DW Collector's kit for about 6 months now. I find that while they don't sound terrible, they tend to choke alot of the sustain of the drums. To a point where they sound almost dead. I prefer to tune low, so maybe these heads work better at higher tunings but they just don't do it for me personally. Also, the dampening material starts to flake off inside the drum after some time, leaving little black flakes all over the inside of the shell. Doing a head change tomorrow and while the may not effect the drum in an audible way, those loose flakes still bug me and will have to be cleaned out of the shell. Eh, they are still a decent alternative to pinstripes, but not for me.

Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:

These heads will give you nice low end coupled with a double ply resonant head. These are the best low ends in my opinion, that evans has to offer. The hydralics sound too dead and fat, these have a nice light coat, so they give attack and low end. If you play metal or rock, anything thats needs some deep tones and attack, these heads are the shizmazrazmataz!

These heads are fantastic! I just recorded drums for a 4 song album and used these on a BucksCounty Drum Company custom maple with mahogany inlay kit. They tune easily and stay in tune. Best uses for these heads are for drummers that love a warm ring and sustain without that weird trebly buzzy overtone you get from other head manufacturer. If you like your drums to sing, and ring, with a warm amazing tone then get these heads! Good luck.

            Doesn't Play Well With Rings

            By Aaron Brinkley

            from VA

Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:

I got the original EC2 "Edge Control" heads a few years ago and loved them. They're no longer being manufactured, I believe, as the new generation of EC2 SST heads have taken their place. I got these EC2 SST frosted heads for my church's drum set, hoping they would attain a better sound quality over the stock heads. They do, but they don't quite act as I was expecting them to. We ordered Aquarian rings along with them; however, when I tuned the first tom to my liking and placed the appropriate ring on the head, there was an awful vibration between the ring and the frosted coating. Now don't get me wrong; these heads do sound okay. But if you want your toms to have a quick decay and like use plastic rings to achieve such, these heads will disappoint you. I should've gotten the Evans EC2 SST clear heads.

Overall, good heads unless you use rings.
The reason I rated this low is because I don't like the frosted coating.
Good quality. Well-made. Awesome heads for certain uses.
They don't go well with plastic rings, so that takes the value down.

            EC2 batter/ G resonant

            By Peart freak

            from Buffalo, NY

Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:

Lets face it, reviews can be very biased. But, I will try and be open minded. These heads are very BALANCED. I play Mapex Orion Classics. (Maple). There are a lot of factors to consider. the physical properties of your kit, playing style, type of music, etc. I have a very large number of toms. 8,8,10,12,13,14,16,18. Couldn't get a 6, so I tune the 8's differently. Having tried other heads, I found the EC2's to be very midland in all respects, which for me is perfect. Easy to tune and they stay there. Good action. They allow the individual drums to be distinct and expressive. Playing a very lively head on my kit doesn't work for the style of music I play. Rock. With fast runs and a lot of notes, an open head sounds like playing the piano with the loudness (sustain) pedal pressed all of the time. Filling but muddy. I don't like a thud either. Drums should have a voice. EC2's give the drum good attack with just enough sustain without being present to long to disturb the next drum or more notes on the same drum. Even tone. Sound good with or without mic'ing. I also us a wood tip drumstick. It does make a difference, so if you use nylon tips, maybe the EC2 coated would work better. For the bottom. I like the G resonant. The EC resonant is a bit to choking for me. The sound control on the top coupled with the more open and balanced bottom creates a great balance and very flavorful. As with any heads, try one drum first and see if you like it. With the EC2 batter and the G resonant, you don't need any crazy tuning techniques. Match them up and on you go. Because your drum is resonating, find that sweet spot and go with it. You will like it better regardless of what heads you put on. Don't push or pull to much. Highly recommended

I got some coated SST heads. They didn't muffle at all! I had to get some tone rings to make them sound good. Never again will I try something new.

Evans really hit it on the money

            By Matthew

            from Vacaville, CA

Comments about Evans EC2S Frosted Drumhead:

I have a Tama Starclassic B/B kit and I just changed the heads on my toms (12" rack, 14" & 16" floor)from clear Remo Pinstripes to these. I am thoroughly impressed with the quality of these heads. Aesthetically, the heads look fantastic. They are relatively easy to tune, they produce very warm, clear, articulate sounds and have a great feel on the hands which for me is soft but with good rebound. The coated version of these heads noticeably cut down on overtones and although I was expecting there to be less projection from my toms than I got from the clear pinstripes I had, I was pleasantly surprised to find that projection was not noticeably affected. The first day of playing with them in a live setting I got glowing compliments from my sound engineer on how the kit sounded. In short, BUY THESE HEADS and you won't regret it.
