  • Best sound for your snare

As reviewed by Hans Guhl on 6/7/2012

This drumhead is the best there is in terms of sound. Very responsive, dynamic, sensitive even to the slightes touch because there is no muffling that kills the sound. It takes out just about as much ring necessary, but still leaves a bit to create a full snare drum sound. The rimshot cracks like a thunder and any hit, hard or soft is faithfully reproduced by this drumhead. There is no muffling needed, no moongels, tape, e-rings or anything else necessary. Keep in mind to always evenly tune your drumhead (sanere side and snares, too) to obtain the best results, check the bearing edges of your shell (wax them for better tuning) and the straightness of your drum hoops, otherwise you won't get a good sound out of any drum. Evenly tightened snares are as important, too. Get new ones (straight ones) if they don't let themselves to be evenly tightened. I have a 14x5,5 Mapex M Birch snare drum, and following these steps with this drumhead I can get the best sounding snare there is. My teachers, my friends and other drummers are always amazed by the sound and sensibility of my snaredrum. Excellent for any genre and wide tuning ranges. The only flaw on this head is the coating. It fades very quickly, specially if you use wooden head drumsticks or press anything against it, so for brushwork, you would have to replace it fairly quickly. Thus the four stars only. Still, this makes any snare drum outperform the others, and by that I mean the higher end ones, too. So don't be afraid to try this, even if you have a mid/low end snare drum and go kick some a** with it. XD

  • Great for deep snares

As reviewed by Zack on 3/28/2011

I have a 10 ply maple snare 14x8 with 4 vent holes and I wanted to get all the power without all the ring so I tried this head and wow just as expected. It has an amazing rim shot the best I've heard and this head is tough I've had it on my snare for almost a year and its still going strong!

  • A Nice Change

As reviewed by VooDooMan on 1/15/2007

I put this head on one of my stainless snares, which had always been a bit too bright-sounding. No such problem any more. The head allows a bit of brightness, owing to the thickness of the plies, but the dry venting works well to tighten things up nicely. I like it a lot.
