The old rules no longer apply.

The Evans Hybrid Coated Snare Drum Batter Head, originally baptized on the football field, is a drumhead that is durable to the extreme, yet does not sacrifice sensitivity. This is a result of the use of 2 unique high-tensile fibers, one chosen for flexibility and the other for durability. The snare batter drumhead answers the wishes of heavy rockers, delivering heightened attack and unprecedented resistance to breaking. The most durable of Evans heads, the hybrid coated snare drumhead offers an intriguing aesthetic. A layer of Evans' unique "frosted" coating allows the gray twill inner weave to clearly show through. The Evans Hybrid Snare Drum Batter head borrows from its revolutionary sister, the Hybrid Marching Snare Batter and, thus, is the most durable of Evans' drum set heads and is already in use by metal drummers Bobby Jarzombek and Mike Wengren. These artists are delighting in having a drumhead that provides such extreme durability and attack without sacrificing feel or sensitivity. The Evans Hybrid Snare Drum Batter head answers the prayers of heavy hitters. Evans has not only given them an exceptionally durable head; it has provided a drumhead that projects better across a wide dynamic range.

I wouldn't have ever thought to try this head. I ordered a custom snare online and as I opened the package I saw this. They sent the Evans Hybrid snare head and I didn't know what to expect. I took the snare out of the box and tuned it a bit. It feels like a substantial, thick skin. Tuning was fairly easy, and I noticed that even though it was thick, it was still VERY plyable. I usually use the Remo controlled sound or Emporer X, but I figured I'd give this head a chance. WOW! Not only was it more versatile than I thought, but it was SENSITIVE. When I laid into it, a fat and woody bark came out. I have had a chance to play this head in every situation possible: cover gigs, church, and in a super high engery LOUD alt-rock band. In all situations this head absolutely blew me away. I would do soft ghost notes near the edges and it was SUPER warm and sensitive. I would do rim shots all day and just a huge, woody, round fat tone would come. You can FEEL your snare with this head on. I have had it for about 4 months now, and there is no signs of wear. None. Only in the reflection of a light can you barely see stick marks on this thing. I am very impressed with this, and I think it is worth $$$ for its sound, feel, and durability. Get one.

  • Perfection

As reviewed by Alex on 8/18/2009

This snare head is absolutely spectacular! it is amazingly durable and is louder than any other head I've played on but it is still very sensitive at lower volumes. It is perfection in a snare head and worth the hefty price tag by far. probably save you money because this thing seems more solid than my metal snare

  • Amazing!!

As reviewed by Jeff on 4/8/2010

Although i do not own this I play snare in drumline at my school and we use these and they are amazing. They sound awesome and bounce really easy. They are also really long lasting. My school hasn't had to replace them in a long time.
