OMG! this is an amazing head. although it is not 2 ply it s still gives off that beautiful dark sound! the emad ring offers a great amount of dampening. you only need a small pillow with the large emad ring. it also looks great on any drum set especially one with back hardware!
Got this for my 22' kick and love it. It has a nice punchy sound and sounds great when miked up. This head comes with two damping rings, I'm using the wider one right now and its perfect. It does not choke the kick drum but tames the overtones. I'm using onyx on all my drums now, which look great with my black glitter wrap!
OK i bought this bass drum head along with the 12, 13, 16, 14 inch ONYX heads. all ive got to say is.......they are fantastic! the bass batter drum head has a real dark, and Heavy Metal sound/feel to them! and the other ONYX drum heads are really punchy sound to them, so if u want a dark sound to your drum kit then buy these heads! but if you are going to buy this bass drum head, buy the others heads too! u will love them as much as i do. Ofcourse 5* !~Duh~!
