EC snare heads each consist of a 7mil top ply and 10mil bottom ply for maximum durability, each with the sophisticated edge control system that banishes unwanted overtones. A translucent frosted coating lends a unique, attractive look. Despite the head's relative thickness, it has a forgiving feel; ghost notes project tremendously well; rim shots offer a "tweaked" palette of rich overtones; and center-of-the-head strokes yield fat, focused tones.

The EC head is not damped, it's treated around the edges to tweak the overtones and response. For snare drums it's particularly effective and yields a pre-EQ'd sound that will please both player and sound engineer.

  • Beefy Beefy!

As reviewed by Angel on 11/26/2010

Ever wonder: How can I get that fat beefy tone out of my snare drum without having to buy a deeper shelled snare, tune low, or use a lot of dampening? Well folks this is the answer. We got this head to replace an old Ambassador on a DW Craviotto maple snare drum over at the studio the not so long ago. Prior to the dayof replacement, we had recorded a guide track with the old Ambassador head along with a an old Tama dampener. We knew the head had to be replaced because the two plies were separating and making an air bubble on the head. So the guy in charge brought over this head. As son as I changed it out, I decided to go medium tuning. I figured since the Ambassador head sounded fine at medium tuning this one will have the same effect, but I was wrong. It was so deep and responsive, almost sounded like a floor tom with 42 strand snare wires. So I decided to crank it up all the way (figure of speech, I am aware of the concept of damaging a drum due to high tension). The result: A huge cracking attack with a lot of low end. I fell in love when I heard on the play back. The overtones were perfect, we didn't have to dampen the drum at all. This is one great snare drum head. If you're looking for that big fat snare sound without losing response, this is it. And if you have problems with a ringing snare during live situations this head can also work for you. One thing is for sure, I can't wait to get this thing on my 14 x 8 snare drum!
