This product is greatly Over Rated and Over Priced for what it is. It's good as a control surface for Logic Pro, but the build quality of the product is not up to the cost. The plastic faders come off easily and the channel strip buttons are cheap silicon pads. I purchased both the MC Control and the MC Mix and it becomes obvious that there's a lot of feature OVERLAP between the two, so you feel like you don't need both pieces. It's kind of a weird matchup. I've returned both units to get my $$$$ back. Remember also these are "made in China" products, and it shows in the build quality.
The MC Mix is just about the tightest integration I've ever found with Logic and an Apogee Ensemble. Unfortunately, the MC Mix has a build quality on par with a cheap child's toy. I've owned 4 MC Mixes and ALL 4 have developed massive cracks in the PLASTIC case around the fader mounting screws. 2 went straight back for refunds. 2 developed cracks after the warranty expired. When the cracks get bad enough the case warps and the faders drag on the top of the case rendering the motor function unusable. I disassembled one to super-glue the cracks back together and what I found was SHOCKING. The whole build quality of the product is cheap. Cheap rubber conductive switches, cheap (and I mean CHEAP) plastic frame, cheap pots, cheap faders. I couldn't find a single thing about the unit that looked like it was built to last. The profit margin on this product must be enormous because I've never seen anything built this cheaply at this price point. I switched to the Euphonix from a Yamaha 01v96 and WOW am I surprised. The 01v96 was older technology but it worked and was built out of quality parts and road-rugged all metal construction. The MC Mix is nearly all plastic and really flimsy brittle plastic at that. Integration and software wise the MC Mis is a solid 8.5 (there are still bugs in the software). Just don't breathe on it too heavy because it'll break. Build quality wise it is garbage. Avid/Euphonix should be ashamed of it. They aren't of course because they are about maximizing profits. I've run a professional studio for over 30 years and this this really is a terrible build. I'm not a hater. I completely retooled my studio around the marketing hype of the Euphonix, Apogee, Apple trilogy. Software wise it exceeds expectations. My disappointment stems solely from the utter structural failure of 4 MC Mix units in less than a year.
This is a very good recording system. i am the lead vocalist and guitarist for my band and we use this device along with others. let me say however, this is a good device but most of the stuff it does can be found on garage band. this does have a bit better quality but if you have a mac then your better off with garage band.
This thing is amazing. We recently got one for our Studio C post production/music room (studios A and B have Pro Tools HD with Digidesign controllers), running Logic Pro 8. We looked at/tried several others, and this blows everything else away. This feels and responds just as well as the big Digidesign controllers in our other studios costing ten thousand dollars more. And it blows the Mackie and M-Audio controllers away for less money. If you need a small control surface but want professional features and feel, get this for a fraction of what they could be charging.
