I've been using this tool for three months and it is really great. Every 2 to 3 months I change strings for my guitars and basses and it used to be a long process ۡ 30min to 1 hr. With this you can change them in a moment ۡ clock in hand 12 min. Nevertheless the principles to change strings remain; if you stress a string too much it will break for sure, if you do not constantly bend it during the process it may break or will lose the tone faster, you wind strings counter-clockwise specially remember this in a 3x3 arrangement or you will break some (thatۡs why it has reverse), etc. This is not a toy neither an industrial tool, it serves for what is meant and is definitively a must if you regularly change strings to your gear.

I am happy with my purchase of the Ernie Ball Peg Battery powered string winder. Reason being that I have 5 guitars. 2 Strats a Telecaster and a Les Paul and a Gibson ES 335. I use all of these guitars at one time or another and I like the sound of new strings. The power winder makes changing out broken strings on the fly very do-able. It also cuts down on time to re string my main guitars for gigs. The only concern is that it is battery powered and seems to have a little less torque than I would like. Also, I am concerned about how much punishment it may be able to take. I will be curious as to how long it will last before it has to be replaced. Other than that, it is everything Ernie Ball says it is...

Restringing is a pain in the rear, and if you're doing it entirely by hand, it's just so much more strenuous. Sure, you can use hand winders, but then there's the issue of keeping it on the tuning key while you spin it around. This cool little toy eliminates the impracticalities of the aforementioned methods of unwinding strings. The head stays firmly attached to the tuning keys and it turns them really fast (nothing like a drill motor, but much faster than using your hands or a manual winding tool. You can control the direction in which the head rotates so you can adjust for 3-on-3 headstocks or even wind the new strings back up. This tool is worth investing in. It really does save you a lot of time so you can get right into playing or whatever else you have to do for the day.
I read the mixed reviews about this product and, honestly, was a little hesitant to order it. I'm glad to say that my fears were unfounded. I popped the batteries in this puppy and proceeded to restring four guitars (including two 12 stringers). The device performed exactly as advertised and saved me a ton of time and effort. It is well-made (contrary to one review) and has not showed any signs of pooping out so far. If you string guitars like I do, there's a good bit of backing up and getting that wind to overlap the end of the string just right so this tool is right up your alley. Good luck. I hope you like it as much as I do.
This Erine Ball power string winder is great. It saves loads of time replacing strings. It was a great buy for the money spent. It runs on AA batteries. I recommend it to everyone.
... but it's not a gimmic. It works great! Changing strings is so much easier and quicker now. I used to put off changing my strings when they needed it because it's such a hassle, but now it's so fast and easy, I do it more often. I've even changed strings during a break on a gig a couple of times. This is a must have for a guitar tech and definitely worth having if you own a few guitars or play professionally. It works great, and the batteries last a surprisingly long time considering the torque that the motor puts out. I definitely recommend this. It's well worth the price.
The PowerPeg works as well as I had hoped, and really speeds up changing guitar strings. Now I don't consider changing strings to be a chore!
Works really well I love just being able to change strings so quickly definitly a life saver for accidents during or before shows when your in a rush. Would suggest it to all guitars its a good tool to have around.
It winds my strings neatly and doesn't break them. I don't unwind my strings I cut them with dukes and throw them away. I have 42 guitars, I don't have time to unwind. As for the battery door, guitar center is very fair if it doesn't work they will take it back. If you don't want to return things its your loss. I give it 5 stars, it works for me.
I have arthritis in both thumbs so cranking strings isn't something I look forward to. I have one of those things to put in a drill but that is a hassle and if I forget to turn the torque down it can pop a string. I do wish it had indicators for right and left rotation but for the money I feel it is a great little gadget.
This is junk. After the first couple of long unwinds of my guitar strings, the thing went dead. Better to get a cordless screwdriver and a string winder insert. It is more money, but well worth the price.
This is a good accessory, one long overdue. Thanks to Ernie Ball... I'm not a big string fan, but, I do have a few of the accessories.... all good stuff. I just started using it.... I'm hoping that the battery life is realistic, and that it's durability will prevail. I've used it twice only; once on my Telecaster, and then on my acoustic (with ebony keys). The slot is a little tight, but it works fine. Thanks for your innovative ideas and concern for professionals. We greatly appreciate your products! Mike
