Overview

Ernie Ball Power Slinky Electric Strings are a perfect match for those who like chunky rhythms for rock 'n' roll or for blues. Power Slinky strings have long been favored by Slash, Metallica, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd due to their thicker gauge combination, providing a slightly more powerful tone.

Power Slinky wound strings are made from nickel-plated, steel wire wrapped around a hex-shaped steel core wire. Power Slinky plain strings are made of specially tempered, tin-plated, high-carbon steel, producing a well-balanced tone for your guitar.

All Ernie Ball strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and the most exacting specs to assure consistency, optimum performance, and long life.

Ernie Ball is a pioneer of rock and roll guitar strings. Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Steve Vai, and Slash are among the long list of Slinky players.

i used to use DR strings until i got some of these. i went to a local guitar shop looking for new strings, with ernie ball not even slinkies in mind. However, they didn't have those, so i got some of these, and I'm glad I did. They stay in tune great, i can tune my Washburn down to drop B and it'll stay in tune even if i bang the hell outof it during band practice. They're perfect for heavy, chunky riffs, shredding, or just jamming. Highly recommended!

These strings would probably be given 3 or 4 stars if my hands did not sweat when playing on them, I do not know what it is about these strings that do that, maybe they need some sort of sweat protection coating or something. I know playing on them was extremely easy for me at first then after a day or two it was just downhill from there. I guess these strings are not for everyone....

Great, Versatille Strings

By airny51

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

I switched to 11 gauge strings about a year ago and I've never regretted it. In that years time, I have never broken one of these strings, and I don't change them too often; they're incredibly durable. At standard tuning they produce a thick, rich tone, especially on clean channels. They're also conducive to being tuned down, but they emit such a fat sound that I never bothered. I recommend these strings for anyone that plays blues and wants to achieve a fuller, more sustained tone.

Metal Strings

By jotrimble

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings are great for metal and hard rock..great tone, you just have to play harder to get the good tone. They are pretty much maid to sound like your guitar is tuned down two steps, power slinky should give you the idea these are heavy strings for heavy sound.

Huge leap in tone over Regular Slinkys and others

By Gordon

from geneva, il

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

I've been playing acoustic for years and recently got an electric about 3 months ago. I've been experimenting with different strings in this order: 1. Regular Slinkys (sounded and felt good but I had nothing to compare them to), 2. Elixir 10-46 (I thought these were terrible. The tone was simply dead. When not plugged in, they literally sounded nothing like the Slinkys and not really like a guitar at all), 3. GHS Boomers 10-46 (produced good tone but felt inconsistent from string to string and also had higher amplitude than slinkys that lead to fret buzz and unwanted need to raise action), 4. D'Addario EXL120 9-42 (I wanted to try both the brand and the lighter gauge. Good tone, feel, and consistency. But the tone was very light compared to the higher gauge. So much so that I wanted to try the Power Slinkys to see if the gauge difference would be as high going to the higher gauge), 5. Back to Regular Slinkys - great feel, tone, consistency, now I could go up to the Power Slinkys and do a direct comparison), 6. Power Slinkys - these are really quite incredible. It sounds like I just traded in my $300 guitar for one that is $1300 (amp too). The difference over the Regular Slinkys and all the rest is truly profound. The tone is so much richer and deeper. I think I found my string. Highest Recommendation.

Mean, Tough, and Clear

By Derek

from PA

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings are just thicker than the regular ones obviously, but these strings are totally made for drop tunings like CGCFAD, my favorite. If dropped, it feels great and the sound is clear. The strings help me glide through the fretboard especially if you just took them out of the packet. Surprisingly the last time I had these strings were like over a month and usually strings break quicker on me with other brands. Besides Metal, they also sound nice on clean. For drop-tuning guitarists, I recommend this type of strings because of the durability and tone it provides.

Great Strings!

By ironman120693

from San Antonio

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

I haven't been playing the guitar long, but i have discovered that strings really make a difference in tone and clarity. I used DR handmade strings, and they were pretty long lasting, but they had horrible tone. They picked up terrible vibrations, and it just sounded awful, I thought it was my guitar. That was until i tried out Ernie Ball strings. THEY ARE THE BEST! They just ignore any kind of interference. I can't say if it's long lasting, i've only had the strings for a few days, but I am sure that I will never switch back to DR or to any other strings.

Awesome strings, espacially for high profiles

By \m/ Cody \m/

from Abingdon, IL

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings are perfect for my guitar. I must say that for electric guitars, Ernie Ball is the ONLY brand i use. Before i was using my dads 1971 Gibson SG, it has a very low profile and we used super slinkys. Now I play an Epiphone SG special, which has a much higher profile (you have to put a high profile on or the low E will buzz). After breaking three sets of super slinkys, i finally figured out that i needed thicker strings. So i looked around and found these. The thin e string was the only one that snapped, and the last time it broke, i just used the B string from my last set. So since these strings were about one string thicker than the super slinkys i bought them. THEY HAVE NOT FAILED ME YET. I think i might still be using my first set, i dont remember, and if not than they are my second, and i started using power slinkys about a year and a half ago. Just experiment with Ernie ball strings to see which size fits your axe. Ernie Ball is the only way to go!

Ernie Ball Power Slinkies

By Joe

from Goleta, CA

Comments about Ernie Ball 2220 Power Slinky Nickel Electric Guitar Strings:

These strings are awesome. These are my 3rd favorite against the Regulars and Supers. They are thick enough to take the abuse thatIi give them but they are thin enough to bend. I use these solely for my Epiphone Casino and occasionally my Strats. The thickness gives them that awesome tone but they are still playable. Most strings that are thicker give tone but don't play easily. Ernie Ball delivers in these. Get em!
