Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man St. Vincent Rosewood Signature Guitar:

I wanted to try out St. Vincent's (Annie's) sig model because I'm a big fan of hers. I found a used one at GC the other day but I didn't gel with it. I can see why the previous owner got rid of it. First the good: the three mini humbuckers and 5 way switch gives it a versatile set of tones to choose from. The neck felt pretty nice like it was already broken in. And the blue that Annie mixed herself looks really nice in person. Now the bad: I tried the guitar with a strap and noticed it was neck diving worse than either of my Gibson Firebirds. I ultimately gave up on standing and tried sitting down with it. It was harder to play sitting down. It was slipping and sliding more than I was at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor this past summer. Maybe it is only designed for a woman to play (I'm a guy BTW). But the biggest turn off for me was the neck joint. It does have Ernie Ball Music Man's usually great sculpted neck joint. But because the body is more or less square (like a Gretsch Bo Diddley), that neck joint doesn't matter; I COULD NOT play above the 17th fret without angling my hand into an uncomfortable position. As a lead guitarist, neck access is ultra important to me and the St. Vincent just didn't do it for me. I put it back on the wall and bought a used Gibson SG instead. It might not be as eye-catching like the St. Vincent, but at least you can reach ALL the frets on an SG without any difficulty. The SG I bought was also only $800 used, a bargain for a Gibson. The used St. Vincent I tried was $1,450, WAY out of my used guitar budget. I say buy the St. Vincent if you're either a rhythm guitarist only (no soloing) or if you're into futuristic looking objects and hang it above your fireplace or something. If you try to play lead guitar on it, you're gonna hit some snags.

Quality all around.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man St. Vincent Rosewood Signature Guitar:

Great guitar with typical high quality build. Had to laugh at one of the reviews. It DOESNT sound like an Explorer at all. Maybe firebird due to the mini humbuckers. It's warmer and have more clarity than an explorer. Neck is very nice and faster than firebirds. Great access to the upper register. For those saying it's got a sterile tone? Maybe it's your playing not the guitar. Solid all the way around. It's a design you either like or don't but has nothing too do with comfort or playability.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man St. Vincent Rosewood Signature Guitar:

Normally, I'm not very into signature guitars. Usually manufacturers tend to throw the artists signature/name on the headstock, maybe change the pickups and then BAM!.. Instant $200-400 more is slapped on the sticker price than the standard model.

This is simply not the case with this guitar. I understand that this guitar is mostly advertised towards St. Vincent fans as well as people who want a guitar that is "gender-inclusive". I'm here to tell you that this guitar is not just for St. Vincent fans, women, or men, but for any serious musician who wants a well-built guitar that is capable of a wide palette of tones.

When I first opened the case, I was "wowed" by the finish (I got the custom blue finish). I am a tad biased in the way that blue is my favorite color, but nonetheless the finish was flawless; not a single blemish or swirl could be found. I was also impressed with the tough case it came with, while it may not be a TSA flight case, it definitely seemed capable of withstanding being carelessly tossed in a cargo bed.

Being 5' 10" and male, I was slightly worried that the body may be so small that it would be uncomfortable. Thankfully, due to its longer shape, the body just "fits", and this longer body shape helps counter the weight of the neck, which only wants to dive down slightly, but nowhere near close to tha of a Gibson Firebird. The "V" shape on the lower bout of the body acts like an arm rest, and the tummy cut is very generous. The neck is similar in scale length to a Stratocaster, so fair warning to those who like heavier gauge strings, as that will cause more tension than there would be on, say, a Les Paul. The dressing on the frets is flawless, there is not one single sharp edge to be found. Anyone who digs satin finishes will fall in love with the gunstock oil finish on the all rosewood neck.

Sonically, this guitar is like a Tele, a Strat, and a low output Les Paul, so it is definitely not a one trick pony.

I dig.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man St. Vincent Rosewood Signature Guitar:

I've never been huge into Music Man, but this thing is awesome. I might be a tad biased because I really enjoy St. Vincent, but it sounds and plays great! It's a bit expensive, but for me it was definitely worth it. There's a ton of tonal options and honestly it just feels so good. From what I've heard though, it was a love-it or hate-it kind of thing, so make sure you play it if you're thinking about getting it.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man St. Vincent Rosewood Signature Guitar:

They market this thing as "the first guitar designed for a woman's figure", but it really has no benefits that the Explorer hasn't offered for over 50 years already. I purchased this for my fiance, and she absolutely hated it! When she finally could get comfortable, only after standing with a strap, she realized how terrible it really was! The sound was sterile to say the least; and we tried it through several amps. The neck has a very odd shape to it, that is what I can only imagine most luthiers would consider a reject. Between the two of us, we have 6 EBMM instruments (Axis SS, BFR Petrucci, Silhouette, EVH, BFR Luke, and Stingray), so we had much higher hopes. We returned it the next day, and are debating ever buying an EBMM product again!
