I have been playing a fully loaded version of this guitar for Country music for over a year now. This guitar is so tonally versatile that I don't have to switch guitars to play Southern Rock, or 80's hair metal. I like it so much I have bought a second, and there are plans for a third. The neck pickup gives a good tone for the more Jazz influenced country songs. The middle position handles the traditional country sound great. The bridge handles modern country and anything else we feel like doing on a given night. Throw in the piezo, and I can pretty much cover anything. If you play country, try this guitar through a Fender Super Reverb, Super Sonic, or Twin. You may not want to purchase another Tele.

When I first played this guitar, I was impressed with the playability; very smooth and buttery. The sustain is unbelievable. Scorching tone too. I played this guitar through the same setup as JP (John Petrucci), ie. Mesa Dual Recto. Incredible growl. However, I returned this guitar because it wouldn't stay in tune. At first I figured it was just new strings, but I played it all day, plenty of time to stretch new strings, and it still wouldn't stay in tune. I'm afraid this guitar suffers from the same problem every other non-locked tremolo equipped guitar I've played suffers from-the strings bind in the nut and render the guitar out of tune. But the JP designed tremolo does work very nice. Too bad because I love every other aspect of this guitar. However, the slightest movement of the tremolo arm and out of tune it goes. I've seen JP dive bomb on his guitar and it doesn't go out of tune at all. Obviously this guitar is not the same instrument he's playing. What a shame.

Awesomeness

By ARNOLDO VASQUEZ

from Leon Guanajuato

I?m a huge fan of John Petrucci, in my experience I like the sound of a metal guitar that can be used from shred to riff. You get an excellent sound from a Tube Amp. A suggestion is to use Hybrid Strings to do a solid picking in the heavy strings and bends in the small ones.

Well worth saving up for

By John Ricotta

from Forest Hills, NY

I'm a proud owner of this guitar and play various types of music ranging from blues, classic, hard rock to metal. The action is the best I've ever experienced having played for 40+ years. You definitely cannot help from shredding given the smoothness of the neck. For those looking for a nice chunky neck, this isn't for you. I would say it's a step up from any guitar but for more experienced players.

this is the best guitar i have and have played, i love it, the only problem is the location of the piezio switch, some times my hand hits it and its really anoying, i personally find it funny because i saw a video with petrucci and he had taken out the switch and moved it.. but all in all unbeliveabley good!

Awesome guitar

By Saul A

from Palm springs

I own prs and ESP custom shop guitars, and my JP 6 plays as nice and the center position pick up selection is the best clean sound I heard in a while. The fast neck and access to high frets is the bomb!

Guitar is for more than just shredding

By tklontz66

from Sumner, WA

This guitar works great for Country too. I have been playing a fully loaded Petrucci for over a year now. I run it through a Fender Super Sonic 112 combo. It has become my number one go to guitar. The neck is fantastic and with the variety of tones I can get from this guitar, I can go from traditional country, to 80's hair rock, to modern country, to southern rock, to classic rock, and back to country, and I never have to put the guitar down. I love this guitar. The tremolo is the only non-locking unit I have ever played that I don't have tuning issues with. Granted, I don't fully dive-bomb, but I can drop it pretty low. If you play country don't be afraid to check this guitar out.

Dream On

By Richocaster

from San Francisco, CA

After several failed attempts to buy a JPM100 at E-Bay, I decided to get this one back in 05, after all JP was the one who made me come back and play guitar again. I researched for all the options, and found out that I was drooling for a Mystic Dream, matching headstock, Piezo, and of course JP bullet inlays. Off I go to GC and they don't stock this one. I asked one guy to help, and he seemed to can't find inventory in any of the stores. He said, he would look further and give me a call in a week's time. No Calls. I decided to call another store and there I go, Ordered it and I was so excited when it arrived. Comes with a very nice hardshell case. The neck came with Bird's eye neck maple, much more exotic than my Wolfgang. Neck is thin and superfast. Locking tuners and JP Tremolo kept in tuned during dive bombs. The piezo was awesome on the clean channel. Mystic dream changes to purple and green at different angles. If you are going to score this guitar better get it in this color, you'll love it. Saw DT last year and JP's MD looks awesome onstage with all the lights coming from different direction. Mind you, you can't appreciate this guitar unless you have a high gain amp. Mind sounds sweet on the 10th fret. It gives out a liquid sustain when you hit it. Hope GC will have the new version with the sonic PU and quilted top in stock.

Simply Amazing

By FunStuff

from California

I purchased this guitar at Guitar Center after playing many guitars. I was also considering a Peavey HP CT Special USA but after playing this guitar my mind was made up. The neck is awesome (very similar to the Peavey) and the piezo pickup provides soooo many tonal options there are hours of fun ahead. The tremelo uses locking tuners rather than a locking nut which makes changing the stings much simpler than with a Floyd Rose. The action is VERY low and this thing is very easy to play. The guitar is very comfortable to play (a huge benefit over the Peavey HP which seemd to cut into my forearm). Overall this is a great guitar!!!

the perfect shredder!

By Dukeman5

from West Paterson, NJ

The perfect shredder. Flat radius fingerboard plays great. Workmanship is incredible, Flawless! Pickups are perfectly voiced for this guitar. Guitar is exceptionally light and plays like butter. I never thought I would find something I like more than my custom shop Jackson Soloist. Tough act to follow.
