I've owned many guitars. Of any guitar I've ever played in my life, this one certainly takes the cake on being my favorite guitar to play. The pickups are certainly the highest of quality. Some of my guitars can come close to this tone, but this guitar just has that certain indescribable edge that makes it what it is. The piezo bridge is also amazing. It makes the clean tones just sparkle. Put some chorus on them and they'll blow you away. The custom JP bridge is also great. So easy to change strings on this guitar. I'm a huge fan of locking bridges and locking nuts, but the whole idea of the locking tuners is changing my mind about that. Simply, the guitar just plays so well. It's comfortable to play and the fretboard is super fast. The pickup selector is in a great spot too (seems like such a non-issue but I really like the way it works out). Finally, just open the case and look at the guitar. The looks alone can almost justify the price. I have the "mystic dream" color, and its really cool. Depending on the angle the light hits it, it could be green, blue, purple, orange, or yellow. Those are the colors ive seen so far. If you can afford it, buy it. You will not regret it. Also, another upside, no teflon torque bushings on the trem bar to get all worn out.
Very well built, details and over all finest instrument I ever see. First the mystic dream paint is superb, very very beautiful will worth the extra money. The floating bridge is awesome,is a low profile and no fine tuners(more hand movement at the bridge), and it will stay in tune perfectly. The pickups, bridge pickup is awesome very high gain output, and nice for clean too. Neck pickup sound is amazing when soloing and the chords on this guitar sounds very defined. And the piezo is out of this world, when you compare magnetic clean with piezo output you hear big difference, piezo is like adding sparkles to the mix. No way you have this guitar without piezo, it is a big add on. Neck, very slim and the scale of fretboard is incredible, the frets are wide and the over all length of neck is kind of short, comfortable with easy access to all frets. I wasn't sure about the 3-way selectors, but once i try it are very smooth and fast. I love it. The setup of the complete guitar is perfect out of the box, is equipped with set of 10's strings, action, bridge, truss rod and tremolo were perfect.
I purchased "Victoria" from the Santa Clara, CA store in August 2009. I sampled dozens of instruments before choosing the Petrucci reserve model. After 1.5 years of daily play, I am as confident as ever that this is the perfect instrument for me. The neck is the smoothest I have ever played. The natural finish and thin neck allow for effortless shredding. You can bend and whammy the bejeezus out of the strings without it going out of tune. The guitar itself is lightweight but sturdy. The bridge pickup has an incredibly sharp sound without being noisy. The neck provides a nice warm lead tone. The middle provides a nice clean tone for funky and 80s clean tones but comes across a little muddy when distorted. This guitar does have a few minor issues. First, the floating bridge makes it difficult to do significant tuning changes and maintain intonation, so I need to keep my Ibanez RG-470 around for drop-D tunings. Second, the piezo switch is inconveniently located. When I start getting into the music, I have a tendency to hit it with my right hand, and the sound is rarely pleasant when distorted. Third, the piezo tone needed to be tuned a little bit because it clipped at full volume when new. Finally, it doesn't have that insane crunch you need to do detuned metal, but I guess that's why they make the baritone version. Overall, this guitar covers all musical styles: Van Halen, Rush, James Brown, Willie Nelson, Chuck Berry, you name it. It also sounds pretty enough to play for choir at church. It's expensive, but the Petrucci reserve is worth every penny.
This is how I feel. Have played PRS, Gibson, Fender, and others. This is by far the most versitile and most comfortable guitar I have ever played. The neck is just fantasitic, fast and smooth action.
This guitar is simply amazing. I own an LTD V350 with EMG 81s and the sound of the JP6 destroys the V350 in clean tones; the sustain and overall sound of the JP6 is at a whole other level not to mention the guitar looks amazing, it's beautiful. I play a lot of Metallica and Dream Theater, but also heavier stuff like lamb of god and shadows fall and this guitar owns. HIGHLY recommended for anyone that can afford it; worth every penny. I have owned a few guitars now and this one is by FAR the best!
I got my JP6 from GC with the 1 year financing. I'm glad too, because it was the last one they had at the time. All I can say is, WOW!. I had heard that Music Man guitars were awesome. I figured that they were good, but THAT good? Probably not. I was wrong! They are, to me the best guitars in the world. I have been playing guitars since 1977 and have owned quite a few guitars: from USA Fenders to Gibsons to Charvels, Jacksons, Kramers and everything else in between. This is by far the best quality ax I have ever picked up - Bar None! Insane birds eye maple neck, Schaller locking tuners, heavy mass JP 2-point trem and a compensated nut. This guitar not only stays in tune with heavy whammy use, but also resists a single string going flat with normal bending like what happens on my Fenders when I bend them. The Mystic Dream flip-flop finish is awesome too. Out ouf the box it was set up, in tune and has the lowest buzz free action I have ever seen. It even has neoprene washers under the strap buttons instead of the usual felt pads to protect the paint. It's like they said, "What can we do that other guitar companies don't do?" and then did it. I recommend this guitar to anyone considering one. You won't be disappointed. I do suggest though, that you get the one with the piezo system. It's definitely worth the price of admission. I could go on but there isn't enough room here - lol. Just get yourself one and try it out for 30 days. If you don't like it, they'll take it back. You can't lose.
This hands down one of the finest, most beautiful guitars in the market. It's almost the perfect guitar. The Piezo pickup sounds incredible, and the neck feels incredible (It's very comfortable, and very thin), unlike any other. I needed to lower the action on mine a tad, but besides that, the guitar was perfect for me. You can play acoustic melodies as easy as you can play the heaviest shredding, and this guitar doesn't disappoint. What amazed me the most about this guitar is the fact that the tremolo stays in perfect tune after the craziest dive bombs, and it's not a floyd rose! This guitar is incredible, and it's unbelievable that it is sold at this price. Go buy it NOW.
I bought my Petrucci at the Guitar Center in Raliegh, NC. I have to say, this is by far the finest guitar I've ever played! The piezo bridge gives an amazing acoustic sound, and the capability to mix both the magnetic and piezo is wonderful! The neck is very thin, and extremely fast and comfortable to play. The action is perfect... very easy to adjust. The locking tuners are a godsend, and the pickups are very responsive, with no muddiness even if your stings' tone has degraded. The finish is extremely durable, too. I'm a huge Dream Theater fan, and this guitar is a must have for anyone who's into them as well.
